Mine has never looked like that - nor do I have to navigate through so many menus, But my needs are simple.

So much of that blog is just learning a different piece of software. I learned on PT and now it feels like the goofiest, most illogical thing when I have to go back to it. I’ve only done a few things to customize Reaper, mostly different “scenes” for recording/editing/mixing but most other DAWs feel like a collection of secret handshakes comparatively. But we are so far OT.

Reaper has loads of great skins that make it way more (or less) visually pleasing, and native dark mode is a simple tick box option on Mac: (Options > Settings (preferences) > General > Advanced UI / System tweaks > dark mode)

Whilst dark mode isn't native for Reaper on Windows yet, you can basically set it up if you follow this: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=307230.

If after that people still find Reaper on Windows ugly, then it's mostly that you don't like Windows. Microsoft should make it easier for Win32 apps to support dark mode natively, but they don't. Instead of blaming Reaper, be proactive and get a Linux or a Mac setup instead.

I think it's getting easier and easier these days, and also the knock on effect of [shit happens / and other shit / + other shit] Linux development is being ramped up currently, so it trickles down to music production and other consumer use cases. Maybe in a few years time it'll be simples and hopefully, you'll have more time too. Here's to a less stressed future!

I modified the "reapertips" guy (Alejandro) free preset, love the colour scheme.

I'm in the midst off switching to FENDER studio and some of the workflows are weird and one plugin is crashing there so I have to email the dev (aurora tsk tsk). But yeah they all have their quirks.... reaper has the benefit of being insanely cheap so at least you dont feel bad dumping $500 to feel bad about your bad mixing skills.

I seem to recall reading similar statements in 2004, 10, 17... I'm now 60. Bought a Mac in 2010, never went back to Linux.

The problem with Reaper isn't the look. It is the UI technology they're using. The look is derived from that.

Workflow is a separate, but related, concern. There's lots to like about the Reaper workflow. There's also lots to hate.

I generally prefer working in Cubase these days. Every album I did for my band was done in Studio One. But also, I've used Reaper almost every day for over a decade at this point.
