Fractal Audio Systems VP4 - Virtual Pedalboard

Ok here's a multitap delay block with the quad-tap delay.

I call this one "The Story Teller" because... well it sounded like she was telling me a story :P

I made it for FM9 turbo MKII but should be fine on any fm3/fm9/axefx3.

I also copied my settings over to fractal vp4 and turned it into a block as well for it. However there seems to be a slight sound difference going on for some reason.

The fm9 version sounds sweeter and more alive to me. The vp4 version sounds great but it seems like it lacks the reverb/diffusion as the fm9 one so I jacked up the diffusion double the amount on the vp4 to try to match but something just not matching right.

Listen to a sample below. First take is the FM9 version and second take is the VP4 version.

I wonder if it's due to my vp4 being connected via spdif to my fm9 and using output/input blocks to engage it in the signal path.

Ok here's a new one for you all. I call this one "LONELY FOLLOWER". The block is based on the crystal echoes pitch block.

You need a expression pedal set for external 1 for fm3, fm9, axefx and pedal 1 for vp4 in order to use this. It's also stereo so best to place the block after your amp/cab but experiment where you like it.

Basically just a normal like stereo / ping-pong delay but when you press the expression pedal down, everything slows down which gives you the impression that your delay got deep and dark and slurring under your normal playing. Also kinda gives it a vibe where you slow a record/vinyl down too!

0:00 to 0:30 is the Fractal VP4 and 0:37 to the end is FM9

Again, I couldn't get a 100% match between the two even though I tried like hard, but something seems to be off between the two on the tempo and feedback side but I got them close enough.

NEW UPDATE!

VERSION 2.01 | May 12, 2025

  • NEW: “77 Custom OD” Drive pedal type based on MXR M77 Custom Badass Overdrive
  • NEW: “Reset All Channels” feature in the Home > Tools menu.
Use this to set all channels for the designated block back to their default settings.
  • Added “Density” to the Reverb block’s Basic Edit menu (except for Spring types). Previously available only in Expert Edit, this control lets you reduce CPU usage by lowering the value. For Plate reverb types, reducing “Diffusion” will also improve CPU performance. In Spring types, lowering “Drip” will reduce CPU load.
  • Added modifier capability to the “Sensitivity” parameter for Touch Wah and Envelope Wah.
  • Fixed: The “Output L” meter now correctly reflects the output of the “Pre-“ Out in 4CM setups.
  • Fixed: Using VP4-Edit “Manage Presets” now works correctly while "Ignore Redundant PC" is enabled.
  • Plus additional small updates and fixes.
