Fractal Audio Systems VP4 - Virtual Pedalboard

Boo! Well that leaves out the crowd that primarily uses pedals and not amps! :hmm haha

I just found this youtube link from @2112 and WHATTT

So if this is the right way of thinking about it, this is kinda like having a fx loop for just the vp4?

So if i connected the vp4 to my fm3 via spdif and set the spdif out source on fm3 to OUTPUT 2 and the input type to spdif on vp4, that means I could put the vp4 anywhere in the path with a OUTPUT 2 block in the fm3?

If so then that means I could then put a OUTPUT 2 block before the amp for pitch, drives etc.. and then on other presets after the amp for reverbs, delays etc..

Then I can use the main fx loop on fm3 for my boss vg-800 and gm-800 and zoia only.

Any recommendation for a good quality spdif cable? I have never used one for music gear I don't think. I think last time I used something like that was for video games or vcr lol.

EDIT: Wait... so if im using XLR outs on the fm3 to my JBL's, where would the outs go on the vp4. Could I run them to my JBL's at the same time as the XLR's since the JBL's has both options?

Hmph. More for the target market of amp users isn't quite what I was hoping for. Not that I have anything against that. I just am really jonesing for full up Gen 4.

An amp/cab-block version of the VP4 would be pretty great. Although I'm sure just having an amp, cab, and 4 effects wouldn't be enough for me anyway.

Cliff to release Gen IV soonish pls. 🙃

SPDIF would be perfect for the VP4 so you eliminate having to do multiple rounds of analog to digital conversion getting it back into the FM3. I use SPDIF to connect the AxeFx to my interface and it’s pretty seamless. Drop an Out2 block to get it from the FM3 to the destination (VP4) and then just put an input block down on another row on the FM3 where you want it to return. Boom.

It would be cool if more digital pedals incorporated SPDIF for these sorts of setups.

So what I said above can work then?

VP4 official 2.0 release yesterday!

VP4 factory presets have been updated for firmware version 2.0 or newer.

I'll upgrade mine in a week or so, some great updates. I'm running mine in stereo post loadbox so the drives and that stuff dont help too much.

On a side note the main reason I got the VP4 was to have on the floor / never move. I can swap amps/pedals which all run into the loadbox and the VP4 is always there ready to go. Filmed 4-5 videos with it and it's been great. Criminally low use for now but loving the quality of sounds out of it.
