Fractal Audio Systems VP4 - Virtual Pedalboard

Guys, I may end up becoming one of them fractal fan boys.... Loving the VP4 like a lot the more I learn and dig in.

I am kinda in the back of my mind wanting a axefx III or fm9... send help

I wish there was some way to tell if a block had a expression control for it or a ctrl switch. Like a small icon in the box that has either of those to show.

Has anyone made a request for such feature on fractal forum and where can you make requests? I don't recall seeing a dedicated thread for requests over there?

Hell yeah.

Geez that list is from 2018? So may as well say it's not going to happen for VP4 probably lol.

I really really wanna try fractal amps and man it would be amazing if they made a small VP4 amp/cab version just made with amps and cabs that you can connect along with the vp4 effects... but i don't see that happening.

However i don't think I'd want fm9 because it's so large, so fm3 along with the vp4 would be nice.

The thing I'm seeing is that it looks like the vp4 is more powerful effect wise since there's no amps/cabs taking up the cpu/data obviously, so it can do more blocks of certain things etc. So that doesn't really make me want a whole unit like FM9 or AxeFX III.

So possible FM3 in the future maybe for just amps/cabs.

Same amps and cabs (other than anything a fw discrepancy would cause). You can blend more cabs in the 9 and III and the FM3 has fixed impedance. I usually am not a fan of that but the FM3 sounds fantastic so I wouldn't worry about that.

I'm not too worried about blending cabs and what not. I always just use one amp/cab in my helix.

I'm not getting rid of my helix either because I'm a devoted helix fan and user for almost a decade now, and I love it still for certain things and routing and what not, but have always been curious on fractal amps and effects and well the vp4 made me a believer i think now effect wise, so definitely wanna try the amps/cabs next!

I always thought the FM3 was still large but I guess googling the dimensions, it's only like a foot wide by 10 inch long and around 4 inches height wise etc. So not really big at all but the pictures always made it look bigger lol.

I am just wondering if the original FM3 is still worth it or the mark II which seems harder to get? And what is the differences between the two... guess I need more googling!

If it has Turbo after the name it has more CPU. OG FM3s don't have a headphone out. This is located right below the input jack so be sure to check that out. The Mark II have bigger display text.

I have an OLD AF OG FM3 and it's great. More CPU is fine but I can run my gigging presets on it quite nicely. If you are mainly wanting amps and cabs and don't want something totally pedalboard engulfing; the OG is fine imo.

Yeah that is what I was going to write next is I'd just be using it for amps and cabs and if i needed an occasional extra effect or something in the path etc.. but I'll have vp4 hooked up with it. My next question is though, are the amps and cabs the same between the OG and II?
