Fractal Audio Systems AM4 - Amp Modeler

I've struggled with most of the AM4 and VP4 videos I've watched. I haven't really liked most of the sounds. I think the units probably sound great and I just don't really like the tones dialed in by the people demoing them.

Yeah, I'm not too interested in the chugging tones either, (if that's what you're referring to). Seems to be the most popular demo tones used, but it does very well at the stuff I play as well.

I tried LT's presets on the unit and, while they sound great when he plays them, they sound not so good when I do.

For the more vintage stuff
I would say Paul from Studio Rats
Or Marco Fanton

The problem with Paul from the studio rats is he seems to make everything sound the same, IMO. Probably not helped by always playing the same riffs. I used to be a subscriber but got bored really quickly.
It’s hard to hear the pure tone through all the blatant whammy bar overuse. Nothing against the guy but just because the bar is there doesn’t mean we want to hear it on every damn chord.

I primarily run cleaner amps , like the ACs , Matchless etc. They sound excellent. To be honest with you, I have owned an FM9 for over 2 years now, and only once when I first got it, did I briely run a few factory presets for about 5 min. I now have an AM4 too, ad still only spent 5 minutes on the factory presets. I know people rave about Fractal factory presets, but I am very particualr on how I want stuff to sound and never find it in factory preset. Im sure I could if I spent more time, but maybe the 25 years of using amp modelers have taught me to not like factory presets.

You have the JVM, right? The JVM is stellar. I've been futzing with the Superbass lately as well and really been digging it as well as all my usual Mesa suspects \m/
Have you played w the Splawn Quickrod that also a cool hot 800 type voicing dryer not as saturated as JVM in lower gears

I have not. I have been trying to break out of my box a bit and find some "lower gain" (less modern sounding more than anything else) options. @EOengineer got me on the Superlead kick when I had the Stadium and the FAS is really nice as well \m/

The Fractal Superlead > the Stadium version by a WIDE margin. The Stadium SuperBass is pretty good if you’re into that particular vibe I suppose.

I remain optimistic that L6 will one day figure out how to select one of the tens of thousands of decent, stock, bright capped versions of that circuit to model.

God dammit.

I need to buy an acoustic first and then I'm going to turn my attention back to either the AM4 or VP4
I vote AM4 if you have never tried FAS amp modeling.

Through my powered Yamaha wedge I grabbed (using the Recto dynacab); it's GODLIKE. REALLY digging into palm mutes and just MASSIVE chunk.

I was thinking an AM4 would be cool for some effects with my amps and give me the option for amp modelling when I want to muck about with it. The VP4 will do 4cm but I run everything in the front so don't need that.

I've been thinking the same but in the loop for any wet effects I might want to play around with since front of amp is covered by dirt and analog delay.

Oh no, AM4's are temporarily out of stock. So let's be a cunt and mark it up $450!

The market will decide no?
