Fractal Audio Systems AM4 - Amp Modeler

Well I didn't return my AM4 and maybe @Chocol8 is right and it's more on G66's end. I think they are a great company and the service so far from FAS as well as G66 was great. I just don't like bragging.

@PorcinePicker : At one point he mentions he just tried another flagship which took some 500ms to switch presets, probably Stadium.

@Mongillo19 : I think there is a difference between hilighting what your product is capable of and bashing the competition especially if said competition treats everybody else with lots of respect.

I don't wanna play fanboy or anything. I just woke up, got this video in my feed and thought "what a douche". It's just not my style.

Now for something comepletely different: Why is Bernd Klitz such a douche? Just saw a youtube short where he brags about gapless switching on the AM4 (which comes with its own limitations). It's OK that they (G66) show, what this amazing unit can do but why on earth does he have to sideswipe L6? That's just bad style. Also that whole G66/AM4 buying experience whas strange as they even advertised the AM4 AFTER I decided to buy it. The thing I really appreaciate(s) about L6/DI is that they'd never say something bad about competition (unless its a ripoff). That short video almost made me return the AM4. FAS is making great stuff, just let it speak for itself.

Just watched that clip. Line 6 isn’t mentioned.

Might be a cultural sensibility. Comparative advertising was banned in Germany until 2000 and there is still not a lot of it today.

I remember going to the UK as a kid and being fascinated by a Burger King ad that bragged how much bigger their patties were compared to McDonald's.

These are companies. If they do something better than the competition, I don't blame them for wanting to highlight that.

At the end of the day, these companies want to sell units and if they can highlight something their unit does better, it's probably best they do.
NGL I’d consider throwing money at the company that highlights what their floor processor does better than anyone, but then the examples are like…leveling out an uneven table, doorstop, back scratcher.

Could be. Maybe just my sensibility. I found it disrespectful. Just like that GameBoy comment. Maybe I'm not tough enough for the modeler wars.

To be fair not having gapless switching on a $2000 is not a great selling point , I think it been in several videos from Leo and other influencers it not just G66
Unfortunately the launch and 1.2 version has a lot of bugs more than should be present
I love the Line6 guys as I have said on many occasions and wish them well , hopefully NAMM and 1.3 w address most of these concerns
I still stand by my opinion the unit was not ready for prime time .

I won't argue about that. I actually don't use presets (at least not during a song) so I can't say. I'm also crossing fingers for the upcoming updates. L6 hast a good track record. We'll see. Until then I'll stay on OG Helix and see what I can build around AM4.

And once again, I don't want to get into what unit is doing what and whatnot. I personally just disliked that guys take on it.

Hasn't harmed McDonald's mind.

Sorry got time stamp wrong. It starts being really clear at 1:01. It’s a bit of a break where the rhythm guitar stands above, really tight muted string syncopation with what sounds like ‘seals barking’ in key.
Yeah that what I thought you meant.
The chords there broken into single voices. Like a you could do with hexaphonic pickup. And slid in with the bat

I sure hope that getting things up to snuff is taking complete, all-hands precedence over anything remotely related to Proxy, or my love affair with the Stadium I have on order will likely be very brief indeed.

The enjoyment I'm getting out of the AM4 only makes that all the more clear. I am very happy to own and use multiple modelers, but having something I really like reduces my patience for other manufacturers' side quests.

Oh and that guitar part is literally 3 recorded tracks
Ahh, that makes sense. I guess the 'effect' I'm hearing is a natural one. It's only a tiny bit in the mix of so many 'bigger' things to love in that piece but it really is nice, stood out just right.
Your talent is much deeper than just a killer guitarist for certain.

I just joined up to Suno and uploaded a short guitar riff and it is kind of scary and impressive at the same time.
AI danger aside It is already my best 'drummer' for sure.
just need to work out the flow of downloading stem, get midi data and build a kit for it to put in DAW. No more trying to tap in fills to make things sound more realistic for me!

No, it is not - because they're neither. G66 is effectively Fractal's public face for half of the planet.

You are assuming things that I don't think are true. Compare G66 marketing to Fractal marketing and it's pretty obvious that they are doing their own thing to market Fractal products in their territory. Those are G66 sponsored videos, with G66 guests, G66 content, and G66 editing. I would bet Fractal had no involvement at all.

The AM4 for the price point IMO is outstanding frankly to me it worth much more than sticker price for the quality of effects and amps
I know it was just bad timing for L6 but from what I have seen the AM4 pretty much just made the stadium launch look that much worse and magnified the bugs and issues

And performance features
Even something as simple as a boot time which I don’t really care about but when it was just shown in a compare to QC and Stadium
AM4 is running in 8 seconds
Stadium close to a minute and QC
Over a minute
Small things but live it’s a pita
Especially if you software is still technically in beta and you need to restart a few times which some users are saying they had too
