Flipping through amp-after-amp-after-amp is just shite

Try to stick to one amp+cab and one guitar for a few months, learn to bring the most out of it.
People like VH and Brian May played one amp and mostly one guitar their entire career.
Yeah I hear ya. I went through the "100 amp models" stage at the beginning of my voyage down the modeling mink hole with my Kemper, but anymore I kinda moved to the "less-is-more" schema with my Fractals, keeps life simpler. I spend ~80% with a BFSR (it's amazing how versatile that model is!), rest splits between a 1959SLP, SV20, and a recently-discovered lust for the Hiwatt DR103. With the occasional side trip to Fuchs or Tucana for grins 'n giggles. :grin

On those days where I can’t seem to dial in something I enjoy, I just go for a walk or find something else productive to do.

Trying hard to picture someone 20-30 years ago saying " hey, I'm flipping between 280 amps and 200 cabs + FX + god knows what else... this blows !!!"

Instead, they probably ejaculated just thinking about it.

I think most people buying their first complex modeler or capture box still do.

It loses its luster pretty quick when you find out how many amps are not that unique and the bigger differentiator is the cab. And the cab is way less fun to work with.

I got my HX Stomp during Covid. On those days where I missed going to the guitar store, I’d flip through amps and it was wonderful. It had the same attitude and experience of “oh let’s see what this one does.” I still do that every now and then.
Sure, the rest of the time I’m using the same 5 amps.

Yeah, I’m at about five amps, if you count channel models as one amp.

1. Mark V
2. SLO100
3. Bandmaster
4. JCM800/2203
5. Recto1
6. Rockerverb 50

Okay, six.

I always gravitate to clean fender and dirty marshall sims. I find the ones I like most and stick with em. Currently thats the Super Reverb and the Placater (BE-100) on my Helix. If a new fender or marshall model comes out I A/B with my current fave. If the new one wins that becomes the default. Simple.

Occasionally I'll need something heavy or "dumbly" or Voxy and then I'll go through and find the ones that work. But thats pretty rare.
