Edit: Oops… wrong thread.

I'm sacred to visit. To say the least :bag Should I register, then start a thread "So about this James LaBrie guy...?":LOL:
Prolly been done already.

They do seem very civil. So that's a good thing.

PS seems to be averaging just behind SFAM, as far as favorite albums. Lotsa love for it. (Yeah, I just did it too. :sofa)

On a DT and guitar note; do you dig any of the old school Ibby's John used to use? I get absolutely DUMPED on with pics of those on FB. I love it. There a ton of cool finished models from that timeframe :satan

I may not go wide with music I listen to any more, but I do go deep with the ones I love.

Mail lady dropped off my Parasomnia yesterday, and I gave it a listen as I was driving. Gawd this album sounds killer on a good stereo! The production is just...., perfect! I LOVE IT! (And the music ain't bad either! hehe)

That one and the camo P4 he had for the SFAM tour:

I didn’t know he still used one of the Ibanez’s on the SFAM tour. When I saw them on that tour he was using the EBMM jp6. It was the first time I ever saw him using an EBMM.

I remember so well my local guitar shop had a P1 for sale for $1,200 and I wanted it so bad… but that was way out of my price range

Yeah by the time they got to DC, he was using the new EBMM. But I do think he started the tour with the Ibanez.

I finally listened through the whole album and… yawn.

I’m so bored and tired of DT the modern metal band. I miss DT the prog/fusion band.

Just one dark mid-tempo down tuned metal riff song after another until it all blends together and you can’t even remember any of it.

And the “overture” song structure where there is a big epic section at the beginning where Petrucci plays all the themes was great, but they’ve done it to death at this point. You don’t have to use it in every. single. song.

Petrucci has done a great job crafting his high gain rhythm and liquid lead tones, but he needs some help with his lower gain tones. I felt like the tone in the beginning of the Clock song was unfortunate. Maybe you don’t need to use the Majesty + Mark on every single song?

Also I think Petrucci getting an 8 string might be the worst thing to happen to DT.

I know a lot of you hate Rudess doing the ragtime and Danny Elfman thing, but for me those parts of the songs are like a breath of fresh air after the dull monotony of the metal riffing. At least it adds something musically interesting. The only parts of this album I can remember today were the double time riff in Midnight Messiah and the “calypso” piano solo section of the Shadow Man.

I miss the days when they were more Zappa influenced and I wish they would bring a little of that fun back to their music. Not everything needs to be dark and serious, it becomes one note and boring. I almost couldn’t make it through that last song

The best part of listening through the album was at the end when Amazon Music started playing Another Day. That song was like a breath of fresh air after Shadow Man.

I will say some of the songs are great on their own, but a whole album of the same thing is hard to take. It’s like listening to It’s a Small World on repeat for an hour.

I’ll probably go back and listen to individual songs again, but I can only take so much of it at once.

I think it gets to me because I miss the band they used to be, and I keep hoping. But at this point they haven’t been that band in over 20 years

I miss the band that wrote A Change of Seasons and used to throw Zappa and Pink Floyd references into their songs.
