Does anyone buy the Mark Series Mesa Boogies for the Clean sound?

Gotta put my word in for Electra Dyne cleans, too. They are legit stunning.

I’ve never played a Mesa that didn’t have nice cleans really, even the Stiletto. But the Dyne’s are exceptional, in my experience.

There’s a dyne combo for $799 at a local music go round. I’ve kind of swore off Mesa combos unless it’s an older mark but still a bit tempting…..

All's I know is Petrucci is super picky about his cleans, to the point of using Lonestars live for them, back when he ran the Road Kings. Since switching to Mk V's and the JP2C's, he uses the clean channel on those amps.

Honestly, I don’t love the combos. Hard not to sound dark and tubby. Head + recto 2x12 is what brought it to life for me.

Yeah combos (as well as anything open back) just aren’t for me


Exception being my deluxe reverb but when I use that amp I’m doing an entirely different thing than my norm

I seem to recall the Studio preamp was big with session dudes for the cleans

Can confirm - killer Fender style cleans on the Studio Preamp. Can do uber clean or broken up. Great dynamics.

I bought a Mark V because it could do everything my IV could do but had a more versatile clean channel and modes and a usable R2 channel. Wouldn’t mind having another Mark in the stable sometime.

Mark III and IV have like a blackface on steroids thing going on that I love

The V is a bit of a departure that’s amazing

I love them all

Regardless of the mark it’s the only clean sound I really GAF about anymore lol

i do like a bunch of my distortion pedals into a clean, but i usually just use my ampeg v50h for that, it is kind of silly though i have never tried them, probably should do that lol
