Brent Hinds no longer in Mastodon

That really fucking sucks. Despite all the recent drama, it’s nothing that couldn’t have been amended, even if he never got back in the band.

And to have lived such a chaotic life with the issues he’s had with substances and not end up being the one to cause the accident, fuckin’ a, man.

This band and his playing have been my #1 for the last decade. I thought I was bummed when he got booted, but I’d prefer to go back to that time than this.

I rode briefly, but between the crap I saw and the things that happened to friends, relatives, and acquaintances, I quickly learned to hate motorcycles. I used to say, "if I could trust the other drivers..." but then someone I knew was killed by a moose and another was left blind and partially paralyzed by a deer. I decided it just wasn't that fun anymore.

Agreed. My dad rode most of his life but thankfully didn't have any bad luck.

I was a few weeks away from buying my first street bike in my early 20's and then I met my future ex and spent all my money on her.

Only in the last 2 years have thought “I could see the enjoyment of bringing a Harley out on the highway when the roads are empty and the weather is perfect”, but not nearly enough to even consider getting one. I haven’t even been on a motorcycle since I was 6 or so and don’t see that changing, certainly not while I’m living in South Florida.

Still fucking crazy though, as insane of a life that dude had and it wasn’t even his own fault when losing his life. Just such a fucking bummer, man. I had it in my head these last couple months that he’d flail around a while out of Mastodon before having his moment of clarity, got sober and got back in the band. Despite his exit from the band, those guys are all brothers and you only need to watch their earlier documentaries to see it. The fact they held out as long as they could before making the decision to kick him out is the other evidence.

I feel like that head injury was maybe worse than we all realised, and it’s taken a serious turn over the last few months/years where something tragic was almost inevitable.

I’d have loved for things to have panned out differently but something just seemed like it was only heading one way for Brent. Sad loss for music and Mastodon

As terrible as this sounds; I figured it would be of a situation of his own making. We don't know the circumstances of the traffic accident (I don't believe) but this is not the way I thought it would pan out. Sucks.

Apparently a woman just didn’t stop at a light and took him out, but yeah, I don’t think it’s uncouth to assume it would have been his own doing considering how he lived his life.

FUCK!!!!

Well, this fucking sucks. My dad got nudged into a guardrail on a motorcycle when I was around 6 and luckily lived, but it stuck with me and now at 53, I still have no interest in riding. RIP, you crazy fucker.

Tragic to hear him passing fairly young. He certainly seemed to struggle quite a bit in recent years. Shame he wasn't able to find peace in this life.

Such a great guitarist. By all (most?!) accounts a nice dude as well. Everyone's a deck of cards and all that, but what a senseless and tragic loss. It really is a shame how things went with the band in the recent period. I was hoping they'd patch it all up and we'd get another Crack The Skye.

I’d have to imagine there’s that shitty guilt among the band members now, the “If we didn’t kick him out maybe he wouldn’t have been there that night…”, “Fucking a, why’d it have to be now while we’re on bad terms after so long?” and all that shit.

I was really hoping their next album was going to be a more upbeat/fun one, selfishly because their last 2 coincided a death and divorce in my life and now I’m, selfishly, dreading the next album already knowing what a bulk of the content will be based on.

I walked into my apartment after band practice and one of their Making Of vids was playing on my TV, Brent being a goofball dressed in a spacesuit talking about tracking guitars from the moon, had to turn it off, too heavy.

Those dudes had to play a show the day after, I'd have to imagine that's way too soon for any kind of catharsis a live show can offer. Brann's keeping it together in this speech but man that had to have been a mindfuck.

"We're just at loss for words. We're absolutely devastated and crushed to lose him, and never be able to have him back again." 😭

Even though I don't really know much about him or the band, it's still sad to lose someone, and especially so abruptly. I see the accident happened here in ATL too.
