Bought my first Martin

Pulled the pickguard off in preparation for the replacement I ordered. It came up with no heat, a little naphtha cleaned up the residue. You can just barely tell there was a pickguard where the wood already started darkening.

I have decided to buy a Martin 12 string as a treat for my very significant birthday that’s coming up in a few weeks.
I was given a loverly amazing sounding Martin 12 string by the late great Noel Redding in the very early 70s when I past my exams at school.👍
I sold it in the late 70s to buy a house.Needs must 😳
I’ve always regretted it and every 12 string acoustic I’ve owned since hasn’t come close.
The one I will be buying won’t be worth anywhere near what my old one sold for at auction a few years ago but hopefully sound good and can see me out .🤞🙏🍺

Not to hijack, but I was very surprised to talk with elderly music this morning and be totally shut down trying to haggle on a 2025 D28 Standard. They would not budge off the sticker price. They used to be notorious for knocking off 30-40% if you called a sales guy.

So much for chasing a Martin. I guess I’ll wait a year and see if they change their tune.

Bummer.

Oh man! That's a killer store that I grew up 50 miles from. They were never very nice
or friendly about letting young kids come and play their instruments. I used to think it
was stodgy and full of old money---and I wasn't wrong.

I did buy a J45 there in 1998. I played a bunch of Acoustics. Came down to the Gibby
and a Guild. I went with the Gibby, and traded in a 1991 RG750 that was my No. 1. It
marked that the beginning of a the decade where I didn't own an Electric and only
played Acoustic. I think they gave me something dumb like $200 for the Ibby. I was an
idiot, but going through a massive Life Change and just didn't want to play Electric
anymore.

Hope you find your Martin. :beer
