BOSS VG-800

I see. For someone without an existing GK pickup, this look like a good entry point. From what I gather, they have a new serial GK pickup (maybe an improvement?)

Lower price and small size, plus many/most/all of the GT1000 Core effects. It fits on my board, low latency, GT effects, what is not to like?

Sorry to be a downer, just underwhelmed with it.

I will probably get it someday to replace my sy-1000 that I got rid of again and to pair with my gm-800, just to use for some alternate tunings / acoustic stuff. However I never seemed to use the modelled electric instruments because they just never sounded that real to me or much different than what someone can already do with EQ and playing dynamics etc.

I was just hoping for something new, not rehashed stuff from things they have already done and a step taken back.

BUT if anyone knows me, don't trust what I say because usually I'm the first to complain and the first to get it lmao.

I still think it's a step back from what the sy-1000 did which gave you 3 paths and normal path and also cool dynamic synth and osc synth etc... but to be honest I was never using all of that anyway. I usually use a acoustic sound mainly and paired it with the gm-800, which the vg-800 will do perfectly for since it's basically a sy-1000 core minus some stuff.

How I set it up with my gm-800

1) Guitar and gk-5 pickup with serial cable into VG-800 serial in
2) VG-800 serial out into serial in on GM-800
3) VG-800 outputs into speakers (or whatever your output source is)
4) GM-800 outputs using a Hosa 1/4" TRS to Dual 1/4" TS Cable into VG-800 fx loop return
5) Turn off GK AUDIO on both units under their menu section or else you'll get weird noises

This also allows you to turn the ST LINK off for the fx loop, and have 2 fx loop boxes that you can move around anywhere!
