BOSS VG-800

As expected, not a lot of guitar models....but a decent variety. Maybe half of them will be passable? I hate to seem snarky, esp. with a new product....but I expect a lot from modern guitar modeling.

At least the thing seems reasonably priced....

Alt tunings seem okay.....wonder how many of these you can define as USER?

Pretty sure these are the same models for the last few decades...

Afaict, this is a GT1000 core with added synth capabilities. If you can run a Core into your Fractal, then this should work.

I am interested because of using it for low latency 4cm with amp and synth capabilities.

I envision it as the "front end" that handles boost/gate into 4cm amp, and/or synth output. This would be "tone generation" into whatever MFX processor/switcher you own. Thats how I would do division of labor.

Of course, if they just came out with a touch screen GX1000 with integrated synth input, that would be best. But that isn't the Boss way, is it?

Not the synths I want. GR300 is a nice add but no PCM sounds (which I already knew would be the case as that is what the GM800 is for) nor the oscillators of the SY series. I don't want a sitar sim either, while we are on the subject.

What video did you listen to? I'm not going to claim that they are the most inspirational tones, but they were absolutely different, almost to the point of being caricatures.

I am more interested in this than upgrading my mfx. This basically looks to be a GT1000 with guitar synth input.

This might be underwhelming to people already using a guitar synth, but for $850 it is more interesting than any amp or new mfx.

Wasn't enough concerning difference to me from the product launch video. They all still had a strat like quality going on....

These modeled profiles are nothing but some EQ changes that anyone can dial in with some EQ pedal to be honest.

I've made gibson sg's sound like teles and les paul sounds like tele etc.. just by EQ and of course playing dynamics that you'd use on certain guitars.

Also that acoustic example was lame... it sounded like a clean guitar with tone rolled all the way off playing strat licks lol.

Fwiw, any of the common guitar-to-MIDI systems use P2M. Doesn't have anything to do with monophonic or polyphonic.
The only alternatives are things with fret sensors, such as the Synthaxe and some other outliers.

Yeah, you can account for that though. I did it for a while with an SY-1000 into an Axe III.

Worked best for the acoustic instruments though. Somehow the electric models seem to work best with the internal amps/fx
There certainly are output select options that should work. It's just the old "I don't trust Boss" gene in me :bag :rofl

Fwiw, does anyone know whether you can easily mount the GK-5 upside down? I never did it, but I know you can do so with the GK-2/3, given that you are willing to slightly modify it.
Thing is, the GK in standard mounting position has always been majorly annoying, so I'd never slap it into some of my main player guitars.

Yep.
