Axe-FX (A Love Story?) Rd.1

Riffing with it some more this morning.

I hate to admit the amount of time I fumble dicked in FM3 Edit trying to change a block to a different type before finding the “insert” menu option, and then not realizing I had to reconnect the block to the chain. Then wanted to put my nuts in a vice once I realized I could just control click the block to change it. :ROFLMAO: So learning the workflow will take some time, but I got that task out of my system.

Got to something other than delays and reverbs finally. Tremolos are immense. Really all the modulations. There are some effects in here that a NASA engineer would be proud of, but really all the bread and butter fx are simple and just great. Effects wise this is hands down the best multi-fx unit I’ve ever played, and I’ve owned most of the popular options.

The only effect I haven’t liked (or can’t find) is the octave. I can’t find a POG model. The octave divider tracks really well but doesn’t do great for complex chords. Good for tracking single note lines. I need to work on that.

I hope at some point I’ll leave the SLO clean and try some riffing. Im basically just auditioning to be in Elronds Rivendell quartet at the moment, floating around in these delays/verbs.

Otherwise
  • Haven’t figured out how to import IR’s with Edit, from the cab block I go to “library” and point to my IR folder but it’s not importing it.
  • Can’t open Cab Lab while using Edit, well how are we supposed to use it then?
  • Need to figure out how to import stuff from the Axe Exchange

Block Libary and channels: the greatest modeler inventions ever.

Channels I understand now. And it’s awesome. Being able to bake 4 different amps into a single block is badass. :chef

Block libraries I don’t understand yet but I’m going to google lol

Have you tried click, drag, and drop for importing IRs? :idk

@Whizzinby congrats on the FM3 too!

The blocks library in FM3-Edit is going to be your new best friend. Any time you find something you like in a preset or from noodling around you can save it and recall any time in the future.

If you’ve had an uptick in views the last 24hrs it’s me watching every video you’ve ever made on Fractal. :rofl

Need to figure out the block libraries, just figured out “snapshots”. Lots of great stuff by you and the G66 channel. 🤜

Block libraries are literally presets for just individual blocks, of which you can save just a single channel, or all channels per block. So for example, I’m on a SLO kick. I’ve got a block in my library that’s four channels: SLO Clean, SLO Crunch, SLO Lead, and FAS Brootalz, which is an amalgam of a SLO front and Engl power section. Save that block to the block library, and then I can create a fresh preset for a song, and just automagically drop that SLO block into that preset, no work.

Aghhhhhhhh

:idea

Got it.

Have we turned the gain up yet 😂

Just did once I was able to get my IRs imported. Lol

The friggin QuickRod is :chef :chef CA3+ is a monster too, but I already knew that from playing some QC caps of it.

At first last night I thought some of the gainy stuff was maybe a touch dry or stiff, but getting my IRs loaded and just figuring out some of the controls in general has helped that. Was really gettin some cool stuff from the Quick Rod and CA3. So many amps to try. I haven’t gotten to about 15 of them I want to. lol

Preamp controls.

I see the “input boost” section under the preamp tab. I’m basically just using that and then changing it to an 808 and not using the drive block at all. Did Cliff put that there to just give the ability to not even need a drive block, or do those input boosts function differently somehow?

Saturation. Is that fixed for each amp, meaning the “On” and “Ideal On” are the same across all amps or did he fine tune those per amp? The QuickRod Lead 1 with the sat switch on is nasty, nasty, in the best possible way. It’s really cool to have those boost and saturation options there in the amp block.
