Atomic Tonocracy (Inc NAM support)

Looks to me like they took issue of people using their email addresses as a username (seemingly a user stupidity issue) and addressed it.

Seems to me they could simply change their demo version to give people the ability to “opt out” of public sharing of all captures and everyone can move on with their lives. :idk

That's a lot of spilled ink...

Having things I create while using a piece of software automatically uploaded to a public cloud database without my knowledge that that is what's going to happen is...outside the scope of standard industry practice to date. Granted these aren't like, photos from my phone or something. But nonetheless, even as a hack amateur, I would be really annoyed if some stuff I was just dicking around with within the context of a software demo got uploaded to the cloud with my username on it and I couldn't get it down...I'd be annoyed because I wouldn't want folks to think those were things that I thought were good enough to be posted publicly.

This falls squarely in the realm of "how does Atomic treat its customers" and there is plenty of track record in that area. With the weight of evidence there, intent has nothing to do with it -- I don't think the folks behind Atomic are bad people out to rip people off, nor do I have to. At some point repeated negligence in one area gives you a pretty short leash in the respectful, benefit-of-the-doubt, blah blah blah realm.
I don’t fault you for the upload concerns. I get it, you aren’t unreasonable at all in my mind for that.
I just wish people would stop trying to put a nail in the coffin of a new venture that has barely had the chance to be born.
And if they must at least do it in straight up fashion.

I have selfish motivations, no, not affiliated or beta team etc. don’t even like Rob Chapman. I have TONEX that is sort of good and their pedal which was almost great. I’m looking at Atomic to benifit from observing that and doing it up right.

I don’t let Tom Kings spotty customer service history at his hardware company cloud my optimistic enthusiasm for his new venture, giving benefit of the doubt and all that. It’s a different market sector and he has different people in charge of software than I’m guessing he had in the warehouse receiving and sending repairs. ( I’ve heard the stories) He also gave me good service at Atomic back in its infancy so I’m guessing it is a lack of meeting the demands of a company that grew faster than his ability to control it. Hopefully he has delegated to group of people and will hire ahead of the curve as things get added to the product line.

I’m definitely not going to assume he is going to fail or created the upload issue for nefarious intent. That is ridiculous in my mind.

I’m a bit hungover and this thread made my head hurt more. :rofl

Seems Atomic addressed these concerns at TGP and I was rather impressed with his replies. Particularly the last paragraph of the one addressing uploaded captures-

One other thing we want to make clear is that all files uploaded to the Tononcracy cloud library are private by default, with the only exception being captures made using the free version. This information should indeed be made more explicit - we will update our material to reflect this. While we consider this a fair trade-off for the free access to our powerful processing infrastructure, we want to hear your voice if you disagree.

I personally can’t think of a better way to handle that situation, especially considering they removed the captures uploaded by those taken off guard by it.

When I was catching up on this thread I had no clue these concerns were addressed at all, even by the time I got to the end of it. @atomicamps is free to post the same stuff here. I know we have some members who don’t post at TGP and the info might help quell some concerns. That said, I’d really hope that our members aren’t using this place as an avenue to sling mud without risking a ban because of our lax stance on shit like that.

We’re never going to censor legit concerns over products, but we also want this place to maintain a level of civility to allow for an open discussion with manufacturers to fix problems when they arise. That’s never going to happen if these guys will have to answer to same questions over and over and aren’t given a chance to put the discussions/solutions into action. Ya’ll already chased IK Multimedia away. :rofl

Thanks to everyone here for your feedback. It is appreciated and heard. We are working hard to address the important items and concerns that are being discussed here. At a minimum, we'll be updating Tonocracy to inform free version users of how their captures are handled so they can make informed decisions - if not get rid of the policy of all together. Also, to provide better communication in general. A lot of other things are on the table but until we have a more concrete message, I'll hold off on the specifics. Please understand that the last thing we want to do is to alienate customers with perceived or actual nefarious practices - of course! We value our customers and the community we've been luck to be part of for 20 years. -Tom King, Founder, Atomic Amps

Splendid news Tom. Thanks for being so reactive and understanding.

IMHO, even in 'demo' mode, users should be able to make captures and keep them private. In fact, sharing them should be a perk of purchasing the software IMHO.

I'm looking for a Helix-esque environment where I can load NAM profiles, so I am definitely interested in Tonocracy. Even though I hate the name. :rofl:bonk

In fairness, I’m still not sure they even understood the issue :whistle

But clearly @atomicamps did, because the user manual for Tonocracy has an entire section devoted to it :beer
Yeah, it’s a different issue entirely. I think you’ll notice a trend of IK getting “chased” off of quite a few forums, due to their inability to take constructive criticism to heart. And while I think Peter’s a good dude, I don’t think he has the power to make the changes. So he’s kinda sent into a lion’s den with a twig.

Building up your database with crap people make in demo mode also seems like a recipe for:

“How is the stuff that’s available on the cloud?”

“Meh, most of it sounds like stuff folks made after messing around with the demo for five minutes without knowing what they were doing”

tom should just stick to hardware.I mean all atomic needed was a refresh of the gui to bring it into 2024 ..like fenders tmp and headrush have done

Fair play to @atomicamps - very encouraging to see concerns and feedback dealt with constructively and politely and acted upon. I think all the feedback and criticisms have been made constructively and to help Tonocacy. No issues with debating things either, that’s what forums are for and if it leads to a better product, everyone wins.

The IK comparison is funny, because several of the key features here are things users wanted from IK from literally the first day ToneX was released and IK refuses to listen. The attitude shown so far is that Atomic are willing to listen and meet what customers are looking for.

I still have concerns with how a lot of things are missed, but respect where it’s due. Also very happy to have different companies engaging here and doing so in a reciprocal way. It goes down much better than only posting about new releases and then disappearing.

Genuinely hope things go smoothly and well, even despite my first impressions. The core technology and idea is sound but there’s clearly work to do.

Exactly! Keep demo captures private, make it an option for paid customers.
