All Things ENGL!

I've barely even seen Engl's in the wild, I've yet to play through one.

I need to give the AxeFX modesl a spin.

That said, every time I go to dial in a high gain amp I haven't used the real version of before, I end up dialing it in to sound as close to a Mark or 5150.

I feel like you have become the Dragon! :rofl
Perhaps a little. Sorry!

I do appreciate the advice from everyone. Just feeling a little bit.. hey folks! A little time, please! This is new to me and I'm new to it, and I'll make every mistake along the way of learning this - and loving it! This amp is utterly fantastic - but I'm not. And the stereo options are doing my little brain in atm...and all the pedals I can trial with stereo combionations... ye gods what have I done?!? Option overload!!!

FX Loop volume - will try. Suggestions re Volume and Master Volume controls - will try. The Shape and Bright buttons also need familiarity.

The tones I was chasing with the purchase are here - in spades. But I still go back to the Fireball 25 if I want familiarity - or ENGL "modern" high gain. Hell, if I just want to bash around the THR10 is sitting there.

Thanks again, everyone!

Happy for you, @Aelred . Genuine enthusiasm is nothing to shake a stick at, be sorry for, or fend off. :beer

I am pretty much just as stoked with the E530. :banana

5150/Recto/Mark/JVM. 24x7.

It was researching Stephan Lill's Gear used in Vanden Plas that got me seeking out an Engl.

He pairs Engls with a JVM, and has used a 5150 in the past. Lots of overlap there in
great Metal Tones. :chef

This is a live clip of him with a JVM and a Powerball live. So meaty. :love

What's everyone's end game ENGL? I've got the OG Fireball 60 and have a feeling I'll be side/upgrading it to something else. I would have thought the Savage 120 or Powerball II would be the logical options but I see things like the Invader and other models. Not sure if there's a logical "Just get this one" kind of amp of theirs.
Founders Edition 100 and Invader II 100 and 4 4x12's. I need to make some space...and save some money...

Only half-joking, unfortunately.

I saw the name and immediately thought of YouTuber with the shop table guitar  :ROFLMAO:

We saw Cattle Decapitation a few days ago. They use a Savage 120 Mk1 as far as I could tell. Bonus 5053 for comparison (used by Revocation, maybe going direct during their set).

Other guitarist used a Hiwatt and, I’m assuming, some choice pedals in front. Combo sounded massive!

Edit: He probably used his Custom Hi-Watt Super-Hi 50 with additional gain stage mod by Fortin! Didn’t get a good look.

RTFM. And thank you to someone else who did for me...
The manual says that turning the fx loop balance control up will reduce volume a bit
Yep - but if it goes 100% Wet... "When the knob arrives at the Effect position, only the wet signal (that is, the processed signal generated by the connected effect device) is patched to the power amp (serial, 100% wet)"

I need to get used to this, as I've not owned an amp that does this until now. I like the preamp tubes in the AE50.

"Activating High Gain in the Clean channel increases the gain level significantly" and "Activating High Gain in the Lead kicks up the gain level considerably"

"In Clean mode, single-coil pickups may begin saturating the preamp when the Clean Gain knob is set to about the four o'clock position;"

Maybe I should read the owners manual before I buy an amp... nah, that would take the fun of surprise, discovery and bewilderment away!

How is the heat with the 530? I’m wanting to add one of these to a 6 space rack that already has a Mesa Studio pre, Simul 290, furman, and a 1u spacer.

I've been hunting for the ENGL Savage 120 amp for a while now, but until a good deal comes my way, I thought I'd try out the official ENGL Savage 120 plugin from Brainworx, which I actually liked quite a bit. Since I've spent relatively short time with the real amp, my question to y'all is: how close does the plugin sound to the real deal The plugin sounds a bit fizzy to me... is this a feature of the real amplifier too?

Nice copy and paste from the facebook flurry.

I haven’t compared side by side with the real deal (have used the real amp a lot but only had the E530 on hand to compare), but I do think it’s one of Nembrini’s better ones. As usual I think it’s the poweramp modelling holding it back a bit, but this amp seems less sensitive to it.

The strong points are the look and layout matching the real amp, it gives you a solid experience close to the real thing. It’s one of those amps where I don’t think individual captures really do it justice because the buttons and tone stack can change how you use it so much.

I compared it to my E530 which seems very close to a Savage preamp circuit, almost identical components and circuit:

FWIW Softube released a new version not long ago based on the most recent circuit, I think it’s quite good but I don’t like ENGL enough to justify buying it.

Wow, that's a great video, thx for linking! I love the Mercurial a lot!
