All Things ENGL!

I will say I have not used/played anything since I got the E530 up and running
through the Fractal.

I can't believe how sick this preamp is. Has the Lo Mid and Hi Mid thing going on
the Lead Channel and you can dial in all the tightness/bite/chunk you want. Weird,
but this is kind of what I was hoping for from the Morse with it's 37 and 1/2 controls.

It's so fun to play through. The E530 delivers. :chef

Throw a little 'Verb and Delay on from the Fractal and BOOM!

Artist Edition 50 home, connected to 2 1x12 cabs with V30 speakers. The only pedal is an EQD Dispatch Master for reverb and a touch of delay.

I'll do a NAD when I catch my thoughts. Excellent amp at first impression. It's what I was after for my use.
Excellent, I'm really looking forward to reading your impressions!

First Impressions:

Qualifier: This is a home setup and I managed to have the Master Volume above 10 o'çlock for about 15 minutes. It sounded superb when I did.

ENGL Artist Edition 50 into 2 1x12 cabs with V30's. I'll stereo with a Bad Cat Black Cat combo soon.

Gain Lo-Hi: This is really the Clean/Crunch switch. Very nice and versatile. I haven't tried any pedals yet but am looking forward to the experimentation. I could have the Master up a tad when using these channels, and the EQ is excellent.

Clean/Lead: Brings the gain as ENGL does. I need some more hours getting these right with the EQ, Shape and Bright controls.

But the volume spike going to Clean/Lead is very noticeable, as in from acceptable to the neighbors complaining - and rightly!

The noise gate is bit different from the Fireball 25 but still good. I like the control for the FX Loop as well.

So I'm going to warm up a bit on the Fireball 25, which is a quite different amp, and try a few pedals to see if I can tame this volume spike and add a few flavours to the Cleam/Crunch.

I can't compare it to other amps in the Modded Marshall range, as this was the reason I bought the AE. My first impressions are that I got what I paid for - in spades. I am going to enjoy this amplifier for what it is - and I hope it's going to take me a lot of hours to fully realize its potential.

Pedal suggestions welcome! I'll warm up and try it with active pickups soon.

I put an EQD Westwood and a Wampler Pantheon in front - and have been having a ball with it, especially the Red channel The Green channel still has a noticeable volume spike when I hit the Lead button.

But lots of classic tones available now - and I have a lot of pedals. I prefer the Strat so far over the active pickups, which are a bit fizzy for lack of better term. But it's early days and there's a lot to learn about this amp.

For the purpose I bought it, I'm happy and don't expect to return it. Many hours of fun in front of me.

Congrats! I am stoked for ya. :cheers

Also, what a great attitude! You look at your experience with the Amp as
an ongoing process of discovery and learning and not some instant gratification
jerk me off right now sort of thing. :beer

Hope I come across one of them someday.

I was slightly concerned I talked myself into it when I didn't really need it - but had the potential to be the centerpiece of my home rig.

Which it already is. It takes pedals very well, if the Pantheon is anything to go by. Still learning all the tone and EQ options as well.

Going to setup another Patch in the Fractal and use the Powerball Power Amp settings,
and then see if there is any noticeable difference in tone and feel compared to the Savage
Power Parameters.

Volume seems to be the major issue I have with the AE50, especially when I press the Lead button. I have it connected to 2 8Ω 1x12 cabs. The Fireball 25 is connected to a 16Ω 1x12 with a Torpedo Captor X for 16Ω – which I don’t really like, so have been using the attenuation options on the Fireball and Orange Terrors.

I can have the Master Volume(s) at about 9 o’clock if I don’t engage the Lead – which means I dial it back to 7 o’clock or lower if/when I do.

I currently have a Vox Copperhead OD in front, which helps tame it a little and has great tones and a nu-tube for gain. This may be what people mean when they say “amp-like response”, but I don’t have a Kingsley to compare.

So, do I need 2 8Ω attenuators for these speakers? It’s early days and I’m still learning the controls, so I hope this is not needed.

Why do you need an attenuator at all? What are you hoping to achieve that the volume knob can't?

Having the Master Volume above 1 or 2. I know little about such things, but have been told that an amp opens up when you can get it above 5 (12 o'clock) or so. I'll blow my windows out if I try any more than that.
