All Things ENGL!

how so? engls super spongy and soft like 6505s with the gain wound up or something similar?
You can't say that across the board, the ENGL amps differ too much from each other for that. The Fireball 100, for example, has a very compressed, smooth, ‘woofy’ low end and full low mids. The Artist Edition mentioned earlier, on the other hand, has a much more dynamic low end and scooped mids.

This is true, but I still feel like all of them. Are pretty wildly different than a fryette… truthfully I can’t think of many amps off and that have similar gain structure tk the brand (but as you noted about Engl even with fryette, There’s variation between models)

But overall to make a monolithic simplification they’re kind of opposites (although I’ve always thought they blend together real nice it’s a sick combination)

I have the lunchbox Ironball SE, for a lunch box amp it's awesome, kept it and gave my mini Recto to my friend.

The Special Edition Founders Edition haunts my dreams but if I could find a Savage II or maybe a FB local I don't think I could pass it up.

Watched a Chris Broderick rig run down, he is currently running straight into the Savage II and to my ears it sounds great.

One of the coolest features of the Morse (the full sized version) is the variable “mid matrix” controls low mids and hi mids are separate knobs and they’re duplicated and switchable :love

I would typically scoop one and crank the other, best of both worlds!!!

That's the feature set that has me all googly-eyed at the moment.

The Deliverance was much more fun for me to play than the Fireball. I won't be
looking at a Fireball again. I couldn't get anything out of it more than a stiff
and unforgiving clean and the molten metalz. Great for some people. Just not
me. :idk

My hunch is a Savage or a Morse could give me all that and then a whole lot more.

In theory.

So the Artist was made for Doug Aldrich but isn't very Marshally?
:knit

That doesn't even make sense to me. Viv Campbell also uses it and his tone
is all Modded JCM800.

Is it how you dial it in? Can you dial in/outsome of the Marshall-ness?? Because I
am definitely hearing some Marshall vibes in some of the clips of the amp in use. :idk

Geesh! Reading Engl threads out in the wild and wondering why so
many miserable people exist in this world. :hugitout

Definitely seems to be a love/hate brand.... with a lot of hate. Or is
it just Rig Talk Rig Talking??

This video is a really good representation of the Artist Edition 50. That‘s exactly what mine sounded like.

I have never played a Fryette. Does this sound like one?

This sounds amazing, but not much like the pittbull cl or sig X I’ve owned

Maybe the sig X could get closer to that not so much the pittbull

They can be very British
Here is Euge Puerto Vaharita
Comparing w Marshall’s

Only have experience with 2. I briefly owned a Powerball. The 4 channels were solid. Channel 2 had a cool Marshall stye voicing that I dug. Channel 3 was blistering high gain enough but 4 was way over the top. Enjoyed it for a bit but felt a little weak in the output. I guess the OTs in the v1s weren’t the most robust and they fixed that with the PB2.

A friend owns an Artist and has since it came out. Monster amp and is very much in the hot rodded Marshall camp. Played it a bit the after I got my Metroplex. We had both amps in the room together at obscene volumes jamming 80s metal and thrash and both amps sounded amazing together. The Metro was a bit more loose as a Plexi would be. The Artist was tighter and more modern but there was a similar midrange to them in the room. Awesome sounding amp.

This thread sounds scary to the wallet :nails

...but a HELL of a lot of fun :satan

Man I offed an ENGL less than 6 months ago but kind of tempted again…

I think a FB100 would be badass…. And honestly I’m kind of impressed with how ENGLs have resisted inflation spikes (to an extent) compared to other brands…:.

I think part of the bad rap they used is o get is because at least at one time pricier in the US but it kind of seems like the prices haven’t spiked nearly as dramatically over the last 15 years as almost every other amp brand

Their new prices are VERY competitive.

It’s always been my understanding that in the EU ENGLs are like suuuuuuper affordable. So maybe it’s just a matter of that gap kind of narrowing?

In fact I’m pretty sure I’ve heard ENGL called “the peavey of Europe” more than once

But on that note, no disrespect to a handful of GOATed peavey icons…… I’d still take almost any ENGL over any peavey every day of the week…. lol
