A New Practice Regimen (A Season Of Al DiMeola)

I broke out my Nylon string---which had been hibernating for a couple of years---and it had
two broken strings on it. :( Now I am not going to be able to embarrass myself in my own home
playing Al licks. :idk
That video literally made me hanker for a nylon string! Maybe I will play my Uke tonight ;~)) Get some fresh strings, Al approves!!

I've noticed on live footage that Al starts a lot of phrases with a very defined upstroke, and not always on the 1.

Gonna beat that into my brain for a bit today. :horse

Al's been very, very good to me this year. :chef

I love nylon strings! I never get more compliments about my tone than when I play my MultiAC. Everyone loves the sound of it

I think Al used one of these for a while didn’t he?

Sweet! I love how that tone is instantly recognizable to even non-guitar playing folks.

I had an A6 for many years. Godin is a great company with a lot of neat options for
guitars that other brands just don't offer.

I’ve thought about picking up an A6 or the steel string brother of my MultiAC. I love Godin, I’m a big fan of their stuff. Seagull too!

Yeah the MultiAC has “that” tone in spades. I’ve got an MD I play for who always gets excited and makes me play him the Princess Bride song whenever he sees I’ve got it with me

On an Al guitar note a friend of mine had his 59 Les Paul for while. He was selling it for him . I didn’t get to play it though.

I love that they do outside of the box type of stuff. You ever own or play an XTSAs? :idk

When I was gigging more I always felt that would be a great guitar with the 3 options
of standard pickups, Piezo, Synth, or a combination of those.

I did have a Freeway Classic like John McLaughlin was using there for a bit that had the
Synth option.... but I ended up never using it and went with some EHX pedals to cover
the "Synthy" stuff.

Still have a couple of the Godins in the arsenal here. I agree. Great company! :chef

Welp, I have the Super Distortions and the Les Paul Custom (Edwards), but have yet to
marry them together. Since it is a washout today and raining I may dive in and install
them before I have to head to practice. Been deep into that muted/percussive, pick
every note thing Al does and the ceramic mags in the SDs will no doubt be a bit more
immediate and faster response wise than the A5/Alnico PUs in the guitar now.

Edit: Ok.... I am going in. :knit :bonk:crazy

@la szum i have a friend who uses an XTSA as his main gigging guitar, I’ve played it a few times and it’s great! He uses it with an SY-1000 to cover all sorts of cool stuff.

I’ve been wanting to throw SD’s in an LP so bad. It’s something I’ve never tried before

The f'ing screw size is different. I blame our local Dimarzio Rep @FuzzyAce for this. :hmm :pitchforks

I found some correct size and threads in my stash, but they are not Gold. I can live with it for now.

SDs are in the LP. It's certainly not AL's LPC.

The unaged and very white binding on mine is not exactly
allowing the Creme SDs to melt into the aesthetic flow of
the whole guitar. Not sure what I think. Probably going to
be a grower and will come to enjoy it in good time. Now to
play it and vibe out a bit with the new to me tone and feel
of the iconic Super Distortions. :rawk
