Where do you guys go for refrets?

I’m very lucky to have a fairly well known high end mandolin and arch top builder here who happily takes on all my work. I’ve has him fret dress half a dozen guitars over the last 2 years and hope to send him a few more soon.

Before finding him it truly was the Wild West. It’s not easy to find competent luthiers out there.

I really want to learn to do them myself. There's only one local tech who has ever done really good work (Dave Rusan who built Prince's guitars) and I'm not sure he does that type of stuff anymore. I keep bringing my guitars to different techs and it's just been underwhelming.

That would look like this;

This is my basic, you can go steel and loose the tang;

And goes on and up.
Vintage is more because I try to keep the fingerboard patina intact;

Looks like he did a really good job. I think I’m going to mess around with the action and pickup height over the next couple days but it feels really nice. Much better than the worn frets.

Since he had to work out those last 4 frets at 7.25”, I had him flatten the radius to 10” the whole way. I like the feel of it and it’s still “stratty”.

Olympic White? My favorite Fender finish.
