Is everybody still kickin'? Hope everyone is doing well.

I've been consumed launching/growing my consulting firm over the last couple years, so while guitar playing is still a fun hobby, geeking out on guitar gear took a back seat.

Fun to see some familiar names here still doing your thing!! 😊

Ahh @Fireproof

Yeah, you can't just start an epic meme thread and then bolt!? :rofl
Welcome back. :beer
Haha. No kidding - my bad! Let’s just call it a necessary hiatus.

Hey, brother!!! Glad to see you're doing good! Hope the consulting firm is going great!!!
Thanks brother. Yeah - fortunately with the increasing frustrations of big company execs with the McKinseys, BCGs, and KPMGs of the world - there’s a place for smaller, nimbler, and better priced boutique firms. 😊

I've actually been considering starting a small consulting thing myself, for commercial properties and how to effectively run the maintenance department, but specifically how to get through Florida's current 40-year certification situation. We had that condo in Miami collapse a couple years ago due to neglect, which resulted in Florida changing the building inspections from 40 years to 25 years, the entire state just had 15 years of "We got time to get to that" removed and many campuses are being fined daily due to being past the allotted 90 day limit to get the repairs in place. I already got my campus through it and have taken a few calls from other Chief Engineers/Property Managers asking for some advice. Seems I'm leaving some cash on the table when I probably shouldn't be.

Wow - that's crazy. And seems like a good opportunity.

One thing I've learned is that the more hyper-specialized you are in consulting, the better. Generalist consultants (and consulting firms) are going to struggle. (They already are). But if you have expertise in a niche problem, and it's a high-value problem that's worth solving, and worth solving urgently, AND it's difficult for the buyer to solve themselves, then you could potentially do very well. (Depending on total addressable market, the competitive landscape, etc., etc.)

That makes me even more inspired to get on it. When I first had my inspection and started hitting up my vendors for advice they were clueless, but after navigating/passing 6 inspections I know exactly what the inspectors are looking for and since I didn’t have any of this work in my budget, figured out how to do it dirt cheap and as fast as possible. I’ve taken a few calls already from other properties asking for advice, which was what initially got the idea rolling.

Some buildings in the area are under threat of being shut down, or they’ve been collecting daily fines for this stuff as any given building can require a considerable amount of work and since it was sprung on every commercial building/apartment complex/condo, vendors are booked solid resolving issues.

Thanks for the insight!!

Absolutely. And based on what you said, it sounds like it's the type of work you could do as an augment to your current job / work efforts. You don't have to risk your current job to go for it. (y)
