I actually did that for a while, but I really wanted to use the lick as an excuse, sort of, to improve my ability to use economy wherever possible.

It's less motion, so it's one of those techniques where it may set you back for a period of time, but then having it under your belt so to speak, helps in other areas.

It's like this lick in My Sharona:

He actually plays it with outside picking, but learning it using a sweep from the B to the E string is much simpler, albeit, harder to get fluid. But once you do, it's much easier!

Same type of thing for the opening riff in The Spirit of Radio.

Right on!

I played that solo for the longest time using all alt-picking, then I was watching a video lesson to get this one part, that I was playing wrong, and I noticed the guitarist wasn't using as many strokes in that part I posted.

I had a :idea moment, and that's when I first realized what economy picking was! (I felt pretty dumb. :facepalm)
