What Guitar Are You Playing At This Very Moment...

Tell me what the problem is with the truss rod.

I got it refretted years ago, the tech took all the tension off the neck and never put it back after the job was done. He did a terrible refret and I was so discouraged I put it in the case until I found someone who could fix it but by the time I found someone the truss rod nut sank in the truss rod cavity, pushing against the wood. The only way I can adjust it is a 2-person process with one person pushing the guitar down into a table while the other pulls the headstock down toward the floor while trying to get the wrench over the truss rod nut.

It's most certainly a result of the headstock being broken off twice over the years, there's wood pushing/pulling different directions and I think the combination of everything just fucked it. The neck is fairly straight but it took about a centimeter of nut shims to make that happen and I believe the lack of proper contact of the nut/wood may be playing a big role in the overall sound/resonance.

It plays ok, just sounds lifeless.
