What Did You Do With Your Guitar(s) Today?

And it was with the stock PU's (whatever they used in an 81 LPC), and I'm pretty sure it went away once I swapped the bridge for a SDJB. Can't remember if the neck PU did it too; it was so long ago.

It didn't matter where I was, so it wasn't the power, or EMI. And it definitely appeared after I removed the covers.
Possible bad ground or bad solder joint. Guitar soldering IME is usually a crap shoot even if it looks good. I have never owned expensive made in USA guitars, so I come to expect shitty soldering.

It’s worth replacing all the electrics in an Epiphone if you like the rest of it. The stock stuff is pretty bad.
Absolutely!! I replaced all the electronics in my Epi ES335. Went with 50's wiring, Custom 57's, and although it was a real pain in the ass putting everything through the f holes, it was worth it when I was done.

Love this Epi 59 LP I just got and I like to upgrade and tinker with cheaper guitars, plus my playing really doesn't justify high dollar stuff anyway. I will be replacing all the pots, caps, and wiring eventually. I already found a weak solder joint on a pickup ground on a pot that I fixed the first few days. It's only a matter of time before I find other issues. This Epi 59 already has upgraded electronics compared to the other Epiphones, but its not what goes in high end guitars. I'm keeping the 50's wiring but will probably replace the decent pots & caps with much better stuff. Probably going with 525 pots to see how that affects the sound if any.

I had similar experience on one of my latest song, I just couldn't play that riff if my life depended on it long enough clean.... in the end I gave up lol and left whatever is there...... :brick

now, I'm waiting bassist and singer to complete the song but as always they are taking their time

I’m back in my “I will get this. I will nail it 100% efficiently and cleanly by the time I am done” mode, which I haven’t really been in since high school. Every little win adds up to more motivation. If this were 2 months ago I would have forgotten I even started writing it!

Spa day for this old lady. Full setup, cleaning, Micro-Meshed the frets, and a restring. Plays like butter. Still on the fence on whether I’m going to put it up for sale or not. I just don’t play it enough.

I feel the same way with my snakebyte... And that's most expensive one out of all guitars i own. Other thing is I dont think it pairs up well with my amps. ( Marshalls ). some point I'll get non Marshall amp and if its the same feel then its going up for sale like I did with my HX Stomp after me cant get it to work in band settings.

So I've started to learn (and play, lol) my favorite JP stuff. It's something I should have started working on years (decades!!!) ago, but I put him (and many other great players) up on a pedestal which somehow made his stuff untouchable, so I didn't even try. Now I may never get it 100% to speed or accuracy, but what the hell... So in no particular order to songs or parts - I want to be able to play all of the following:

Pull Me Under
Metropolis
Learning To Live
Erotomania
Voices
The Mirror
Lie

In particular, the solos for Erotomania, Voices, and Lie are just epic...

Cool! My list includes:

For 32nd note riffs:
Home (4:00)
In The Presence of Enemies
(8:10)
Invisible Monster
(4:33, and really, I work on the whole solo in this song)

For sextuplet riffs:
In The Name of God (9:53)
Pull Me Under (6:21)

And there's so many other riffs/licks/solos/rhythm parts of his I keep in my practice rotation, since he's a wealth of technical & melodic well to draw from.

The legato part of the solo from In The Name of God
The triplet, palm-muted riff in The Ministry of Lost Souls
Oh and the open string riffs:
Key To The Imagination
Never Enough
Octavarium

and so much more...

His songs have SO much packed into them, that I don't focus on learning any of them, start-to-finish.

I'm never gonna play any of them in a band, but I could see myself using things I learn from his solos. Plus, focusing on certain aspects stretches me as a player.

My picking for example has gotten so much better since I started digging in to learning his riffs.

Received my JHS Show “Ernie Ball Trivia Time” prize from Ernie Ball this afternoon. I’ve used D’Addario strings exclusively for over 30 years, but with 12 free sets, I guess I’ll give these a try for a while:

The question I answered correctly, and first, was “What model Ernie Ball Music Man guitar was the first to feature a gun-stock oil and wax finish,” which the correct answer was the Eddie Van Halen model.

had a few shots/beers and all this shit sounds mo betta
Our band motto was, "the drunker you get the better we sound"

Played some unamplified six-string electric bass guitar today. Tried some synth guitar which didn't work out too well today, and then on to keyboard skills work.
