There is a part of me that wants to go experience the Sphere, but the rest of me looks at the time and cost commitment and the selection of performers and thinks "I would probably not spend that if I had a time machine to see them in their prime let alone now." If I lived nearby I probably would have gone already, and if I end up in Vegas for other reasons or on someone else's dime, I will likely go see whoever is playing that week, even if it is the Eagles or Cold Play!

Speaking at least for myself; I am beyond spoiled for who I have already seen multiple times in some cases, as you said; in their absolute prime. For much less money than what the same artists have to charge now. Tough sell.

Same issue, plus my travel costs are MUCH higher now. Shit, when I was 14* we would bum rides from HS kids, and pack a dozen or more into a motel room to go see the concerts 4-7 hours away. Now I would want to fly, I would want my own room (or share with wife) in a nice reputable hotel, and I would want to eat real food. That shit adds up fast!

That’s a world that those who came after us would neither recognize nor understand. Get home from school, drop off your books and change clothes. Disappear until dinner time, then take off again and disappear until dusk. And that was when we were in elementary school.

It sounds like they may of "had" to. Either take advantage of fans/friends or take advantage of family. Had in quotes because I don't know how much they were making, and also because the low pay long odds music career was a choice. I try not to be hard on people who try to chase that dream because for most it is not an easy path.

Every one of them came from an upper middle class home and was living in Nashville on their parent’s dime. They’d pull that act everywhere and when it didn’t work out they’d just buy dinner with the money they actually had, or get a hotel room instead of crashing on the floor of an audience member’s house

It was literally an act that was created around a coffee table by a group of people that did not wear the same clothes or play the same music before or after the band, while their parents foot the bit for them to live in Nashville. I dunno about you, but my definition of poor doesn’t include adults who still get an allowance from their parents while the parents are still paying their rent and utilities.

And there was never an issue paying my drummer buddy $800 a week to tour/play with them, which I believe also came directly from one of the parents.

Unless the parents are mega wealthy, they are still taking advantage of someone. That part that bothers me the most is that to survive as an up and coming musician, you need another source of money because there is so little income for so long.

I read that one of the mumford and sons guys is from some mega rich elitist hedge fund family. So maybe that is a common thread with that whole genre.
