What are you listening to right now ?

Dude, when you're reading Paradise Lost... why are you not listening to Paradise Lost as well? :idk

Too on the nose but this book is gonna take a bit so I have to do that at some point. The first two chapters were all literally in Hell so the atmosphere called for dissonance lol

It's a hair less "modern (?)" imo but I love it nonetheless :satan

Has that mid-scooped 90's Mesa thing in spades!!
:rawk

Funny to me how 90's metal has such a distinct production/sonic signature.

I don't recall hearing it so distinctly back then, but now it is instantaneous. For me! :idk

It’s easier to read with music in - idk why lol. This book is HARD to read too, so anything helps, especially where black metal is dissonant and I can drone that out

Adult enrichment? College courses? :idk

I think it's cool as fuck you are diving in. Big fan of Yeats, Milton, Homer,
and epic poetry. It's like the Prog of Literature.

You'll be speaking and conversing in Old English dialect before you know it.
:beer

Th cool thing for me in reading those kinds of works is the realization that
we are all already fucked, the world is really going to end, and we are all going to die for
thousands and thousands of years. Every generation has its own Apocalyptic Fever,
so to speak.

Just adult enrichment, it’s been on my bucket list. Once I got the cadence down, it’s really beautiful to read 💯

Awesome. Love that. I got into Ralp Waldo Emerson in College big time, and recall
struggling and wanting to toss it (required reading!), and then when I finally found the
"cadence" as you put it, it was like entering a new world and figuring out how to
navigate it.

I ended up checking out more of his work on my free time and becoming an huge fan of
a lot of the Western Canon. I'd never do it again, though.

Just to riff on this some more. You learn fancy words and bust them on your friends and
then they start to think you are even more pretentious than you already were. :idk

Kind of cool to reflect on how language is constantly evolving---that nothing is set in
stone in our world. Not even stone.

It's kind of neat to think about----the mid-centric guitar tones of the 70s and 80s
were replaced with the mid-empty tones of the 90s (at least in a lot of Metal). Like a
Newtonian equal but opposite reaction in something where I guess physics
still applies.

Oh, and there are some cool Geoff Tate-isms from Wade that I don't recall
sticking out back in the day. Funny what you pick up on when you get all
decrepit and shit.
