It's like they knew making a gold top "EC-1000 flavor", with black hardware, locking tuners, non-active pickups (SD Custom 14 and APH-1N) and a hardcase would be what it took to sway me. Fuckers. I had an EC-1000 back from 2004 to 2013, stupidly traded on a Strat - although it taught me Strats ain't for me.
Rightin' a wrong?

I can't help it, I've tried to deny it and told myself it's just a phase. One that'll pass in a few weeks but it's not and it hasn't.
I really want a PRS silver sky. It'll be a long long time before I can afford that kind of outlay, so I might need to grab a SE to scratch the itch while I save for a Core model.
My one big question though is why are the available colours so bad? They're really not to my taste. I did see the purple SE which looks pretty good but you can only get it with a maple neck SE. Bleh

I had the purple SE for a little bit, I like maple fret boards though lol. I agree most of the colors are whack but I did dig the purple

Even the core colours are pretty poor IMO. The gold and red from the first year or two look pretty good but I don't like most of the others I've seen.
It'll have to be a rosewood variant for me, I really don't like maple fretboards. It's purely an aesthetic thing for me.
What did you think of it when you had it and have you played a core SS?

It was pretty nice, overall I was impressed/happy with it. I haven't played a core, but I sold an american pro II strat shortly before getting the SS.
The neck is quite chunky, stock pickups sounded good. Neck did shrink a bit during the time I had it... fret edges were perfect upon receipt but were rough after about 6 months? Hadn't had that happen on a guitar before.
Things I didn't like: tuners and knobs looked/felt cheap
the scarf joint on SEs with unpainted necks trigger me. I've noticed it on pics I've seen of some of the new SE nf53s too. They're always like asymmetrically rounded in a weird way that looks bad to me. This is an aesthetic thing as there's nothing wrong with the scarf... but still the S2s and CE24 have a really nice precise and pointed scarf. The SE scarfs look like this to me:

I had an epiphany a few weeks ago and my strat finally clicked. Up until then I wasn't really a strat guy either.
That's all good info dude, thanks for that. The tuners shouldn't be too much of an issue, it looks like gotoh sd91s should be drop in replacements and I've got an unused set in my parts stash.

Yeah it's not great looking. I was surprised when I read the Core SS have scarf joints too. I think I'm just conditioned to hate on them because when I think scarf joint I think cheap import Korean and Chinese LP copies.

Yeah I believe all the current USA bolt on models are scarf joint as well as the S2s. I'll snap a pic of the scarf joint on my CE24 later, it looks soooo much cleaner and nicer its not even a comparison
