What are you GAS'ing for at the moment ?

Yeah I believe all the current USA bolt on models are scarf joint as well as the S2s. I'll snap a pic of the scarf joint on my CE24 later, it looks soooo much cleaner and nicer its not even a comparison

I genuinely hadn't realised they were doing that. All of the maple neck prs I've owned and played were from 2000-2010 and they were all one piece necks.

I know there's nothing wrong with a scarf joint and that if done properly it's stronger than a solid neck but in all honesty I think I've been programmed by the internet to look down on them a bit. I'm clearly easily led :facepalm :grin

Yeah only core models have the single piece neck, and it seems like they techincally make a distinction between USA bolt on and core models. You know how they like to be goofy with all their tiers and distinctions though

Ah so a maple neck custom would probably still be a one piece the neck? That makes sense in a prs sort of way. I'm still surprised they used a scarf joint for the US built SS

yeah any models listed under the "Core" section of their site are a one piece neck

I'm pretty sure any US bolt on models prior to 2016 had one piece necks too, but I could be mistaken on that.

Seems like with the release of the current gen CE24s they decided they could sneak in a new "tier" above S2 but with a few cost cutting methods still to make it not quite core with the bolt ons

Any I've ever played were one piece but that will have been up to 2010/12 ish.

In any case, this is what the scarf looks like on my CE24. Much cleaner lookong than the SE one lol

Tis a noble and long quest. My favs are still Sun Face, JHF1 and Thorpy Have Blue.

I think I’m going to grab that Fuzz Face DIY kit that the maker mentioned here, I think @mbenigni has one? Just so I can start collecting transistors and give them a shot outside the pedal casing before making any final decisions. Regardless, it’s all an effort to recreate EJ’s Fuzz Face tones in the late 80’s/early 90’s- skip to 0:40 and just wait until he steps on it. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2z1b...ey=vnspedkc4nate0txmbdzgkrku&st=3kok3gr7&dl=0

I had a JHF1 in high school, sold it for $25 because I never used it. Damnit. I have the EJ FF now but it’s quite dark and from all I can tell the current Hendrix FF sounds considerably better all around…..and it’s blue!

That EJ snippet above was the birth of me being a gear nerd when I was 11, between the non-descript pedals and then the sound coming out of his amp after hitting that Fuzz Face I was mesmerized by it all.

The JHF1 is the blue one. It's my favourite silicon fuzz face, the cleanup is exceptional.

If you get one of those fuzz face kits and want some transistors give me a shout. My transistor cup runeth over with bc108, 109, bc183, bc184, bc548/9 and a bunch of others a bit off the beaten track. I used to have a transistor acquisition syndrome and if I'm being honest I probably have enough to open a shop.

The thread is here in case you've lost track: https://thegearforum.com/threads/th...xplored-transistors-for-fuzz.5567/post-220073

Seth at @huntingtonaudio was awesome - very generous with his time and knowledge. You might want to consider one of his "Breadboard Butlers" as well. That'll make testing your DIY fuzz easier until you finally put it in an enclosure, and it's good to have if you're going to experiment with any other circuits down the road.
