What Amp Are You Playing Today?

isn't that the same circuit as the Sovtek?

On your MKV are you using the "Edge" mode on channel 2?

Yessir!! I was a “crunch acolyte” for a long time with both this one and the V I used to have but I fell in love with edge mode more recently. Kick ass sounds (crunch mode is still epic, edge just suits my vibe for that channel moee so these days)

It's gonna be this for a while to come, I still haven't even tried all my guitars through it-

I was curious how the EMGs were going to sound through it, half expecting it to sound pretty good considering the EMGs were made when amps sounded more like this than they do modern amps and I wasn't wrong. They actually sound pretty damn good, so I'm guessing it's just modern high gain that makes me hate them.

PS awesome setup Dave :chef

Love those big ass Toroidal Transformers! :chef
Appreciate it muh friends!
Holey Hey Zeus Fuckerin' Christine, but I don't know why none of you fukka's ever told me how great a tube amp is! :grin :pitchforks :grin

My parttime neighbor was around last night and came up to help me break this bitch in! He's been playing 45 years or something, so he's way better than this hack! Also gave him shit for not telling me to get a tube amp, lmfao. He said, "I only told you every time I've talked to you the last 5 years!".

I could get by without the Powerstation, since there is a "Watts" knob on the head, basically a MV - but that Powerstation does some extra-injection of fukkerin' mojo, and I am loving it. Moar tubes? A magic presence knob? A "edge" setting on the bright switch, all useful and really changes shit.

Having so many options is taking some digestion time, but I keep landing on some other cool ass tone most every time I tweak shit. Was playing the intro to Ain't Talking 'Bout Love, over and over - with the help of a flanger on the QC.

Gotta be careful with the built-in boost, too high and it can choke the mids. But there's "gain on tap" and a pretty awesome clean channel. Still don't know when I'm supposed to use the rhythm or lead channel, so I just randomly decide, lmao.

Using the QC for pre-amp effects atm, need 2 more cables to put post effects in the loop. Seems like all I do is buy fucking cables.

Definitely kicks ass and I don't think I could be any happier with it, especially since I'm still learning it, and will be for a while.

Neighbor is a huge Marshall guy, has a div/13 and a few other amps, but is a tried-and-true Marshall Bitch! Once he got it dialed in the way he likes it, he said he could sit here for hours and jam! Pretty high praise, he knows his shit! He also loved the Powerstation. Have to keep him away from my Luke 4, I think he wants to run off with it! I'd probably still be trying to figure shit out if it wasn't for him!

Stoked for you Dave
BTW you have Cable OCD, like me everything needs to be neat and tidy I noticed :grin

:beer
Haha, yes indeed Mike!

Have a UPS screwed to the underside, which is messier than I like with the power cables, but whatchagonnado? Not sure if I'm going to bother hooking up the amp footswitch, could throw everything into disarray lol.

There's only two things that give me anxiety if they're not organized; cables and any the various paperwork/certificates/inspection sheets the city inspectors need when they come on the campus. If I could organize my life like I can a pedalboard....damn...

Today, it’s a Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120. It’s behind me on stage, under the Peavey combo. Part of the backline at this venue I play at regularly, so not my amp. I also use their Fender Tonemaster, to the left behind the trumpet player. I prefer the Tonemaster, since the JC can get a bit glassy at times, but it worked with this combo and guitar.

I'll be jamming today with my good friend who is an excellent keyboard player. He also played trumpet in Maynard Ferguson's band years ago .

I'll be using a Peavey Classic 20 head (clean channel) and a cab with a WGS ET65 in it. Extra push comes from a Critter CFR (klone).

We will probably be doing our usual Steely Dan schtik which we did for years when our full band was together along with other stuff.

I've tried many preamps into that Peavey and all have sounded fantastic (valvenergy, tech21 leeds, amt), That speaker is a key component too.

He's been playing 45 years or something
When I saw this @Warmart I did some quick math and came up with a higher number  but your neighbor is essentially right about tube amps being wonderful, except for the SS and Modeling ones that are great too. Simply depends on which brand. Quality is Quality.

He plays his Kemper Floor everyday, too, but loves his tube amps just for that extra feel.
