What’s your “all-around” guitar?

I’m looking at all my guitars and i like them all for different reasons but they all have foibles. Some just have the bridge pickup in the wrong place, others just have unstable necks, while others seem to need constant adjustments. The two that sound the best (the most important thing) get the most play but sometimes I just put them away because of the issues.

Which guitar is your one guitar for everything? Not necessarily your favorite but it can be. Stability is a requirement.

I’m not really a PRS guy but I’ve been eyeballing a 513 as an all around. I just wish it were a hardtail. I’m not the guy that’s going to spend $7000 on a guitar so I’m not looking into Collings or Lentz or Liggett. Where should I be looking for a do-it-all without issues?

I basically have two, but right now it's an Anderson semi-hollow with a Duncan mini humbucker in neck, DiMarzio Bluesbucker in bridge position. Has a Wilkinson V100 instead of the original Gotoh and ist working for pretty much everything I ever need.
Current #2 is a Schecter Nick Johnston (also exchanged the trem in favour of a Gotoh 510, single coils are replaced by noiseless versions), but it might be my #1 whenever I feel like.

Are these things that are beyond fixing? Guitars are tools or art. If they don't work as a tool and you can't fix it, offload it or turn it into wall art.

For me, there really isn't one guitar that can do everything. I have a pair of Strats that are my most versatile, but I also have a pair of dual hum bucker guitars that do things the Strats don't. Then there is the Tele and the dual P90 guitars. I should get backups for those as well, but I really don't need them.

I release you from all obligation.

Most versatile:
3 pups
H/S/H configuration…with coilsplits.
Tremelo

The only thing you may be compromising on is the typical semi acoustic vibe.

That would have been my suggestion ;)
Reason: this is the only pup set I know of that does a good single coil out of a humbucker.

or…a H/S/H strat with Prails…that’s humbucker in series/parralel/p90/single. Tbh, the single coil is a compromise on that pup. This levinsonblade is the backup for the 513.

If I need something that can go between jazz/ semi hollow and pop/overdrive sounds, I grab for an Eastman Romeo. For me the only hollow with a solid top I can get a good overdrive sound out. No single coilsound, no fender quack, no tremelo…So it not a coverband monster ;) This one is probably my most played guitar.

When someone says “pups” when referring to pickups I generally discount the rest of what they’re talking about.
Otherwise, I’d take your advice.
