Turns out I dig V30s

I’ve been pretty stoked on how the V30s sound in my recently acquired f100 combo… was preemptively thinking I’d have to do a head conversion and disperse the v30s elsewhere in different cabs. Up until now I’ve never thought I could be happy with any manner of open back for heavy sounds but this combo has been performing very well for that sound

I bought a pair of new 8-ohm UK Vintage 30s dated Sept. 2024. Replaced the speakers in my Bogner 2x12 (one of which was a 2019 Chinese 8-ohm Vintage 30). Recorded a before-and-after comparison with a reamp box, same mic in the same position: https://abx.funkybits.fr/test/vintage-30-comparison-8-ohms
My 1x12 cab with a V30 def sounds Chinese listening to this. Vastly prefer the sound of the UK built ones in this and other comparisons, sounds like a different V30 would make it easier to dial in the right amount of sizzle from the amp in the small room I have it in. Dammit, another money pit!

Yeah, there's a certain distant, sizzly sound to the Chinese speaker that can't really be dialed out. The difference is honestly bigger than I expected.

Anyone know how V30s from around 2011 fit in the tonal spectrum? I haven’t gone down the rabbit hole of comparing speakers of the same model yet.

The V30 that I have has a T3904A code, which is probably just representative of the 2010-era production.

New V30s are currently at a pretty good price on MF.

From 2011 to 2022 or so is supposedly more or less the same brighter tone with the harsher high mids. Even by 2006 they were a lot harsher than early 2000s or current production.

Listen if you like what you have ? Don’t worry about what any other person or forum poster thinks .
If you ring Celestion HQ in Suffolk and ask them about the difference between so called Chinese and the Suffolk made speakers ??
When it comes to Hi end Audio loud speakers I can still hear big differences even with my old ears.
But playing a guitar through pedal boards good heads and multiple cabinets or combos No I couldn’t say what speakers were in those cabinets or combos unless I already new .🤘
I do want to try a BadCat 3 X 12 vintage 30 cabinet .🤞🙏
Those vintage 30s are not dropped 👍🍺
I’ve seen John Mayer live a few times and he always sounded great But I couldn’t tell if he was using his £150,000 Dumbal heads .😳

I like the V30 I have and it’s not going anywhere. I do find the nuances of speakers interesting and the changes in tone under a mic is an application that I explore frequently.

Celestion needs to move G12T-75 production back to UK as well. I'm curious about swapping out the 2 Marshall G12 Vintage speakers I have in one of my Mojotone British 412s for two new UK G12V-30 speakers.
