Tonex -vs- NAM ..... the Tonex "Aliasing" Low Pass Filter is at ~ 14kHz

If you seriously believe that, I feel a deep sense of sadness and regret on behalf of your MI career.

I just cannot agree that all marketing is based on lies. At all. Some, sure.
What MI career I chose to rather go back to suffering as unemployable musician. 12 years in MI was enough.

The most annoying thing about it right now for me is that basically the only way to advertise your stuff is through the Youtuber influencer pipeline.

It fucking sucks, and I wish more people would view these Youtubers with suspicion. But they don't. They lap it the fuck up.

Yeah, the beauty of me being old, jaded and no longer MI…I’m great without ever paying attention to them.

But yeah it’d drive me nuts if I had to send shit to guys that know sweet FA but influence other’s buying decisions.

I tell you when I’ve had enough in MI was when a consultant was brought in that tried to make me tell dealers and distributors the then new THD Flexi was an idealised Marshall.
I mean I loved that amp but the simple fact is that my old 60s and 70s Super Leads ARE idealised Marshalls.
Fucking Muppets…

Of course I didn’t and made enough fun of that clown that he gave up.

And while I’m on a rant…who always were much worse the manufacturers with the illogical explanations where the European distributors.
The amount of BS they’re willing to tell dealers and end users to keep unreasonably high margins for themselves is friggin mindboggling.

And this experience was across the board with small builders I dealt with/know/consulted for.

Software is hell on earth. Capture consistency (let alone success rate) is hell on earth. Tones to my ears are not as good as, let alone any better than anything else making any of these concessions remotely worth it by any metric. FX are dated and not of this generation. Buying and trying on the used market requires a bunch of registration hoops that are completely asinine.

There's just no reason to use Tone-X.

And btw, that "inharmonicity" is a big part of what makes an electric guitar sound cool.
Not if it’s above 14kHz and you’re rocking Tonex.

Do you seriously mean that because some companies may lie to their customers, it would be OK for IK to use false marketing claims deliberately?
Unfortunately IK accidentally lies to their customers.

Unfortunately IK accidentally lies to their customers. They don’t seem to know their ass from their elbow.

^^^ - Their own support forum is virtually a wasteland of uselessness. Most specific questions get answered with a combination equivalent of (a) "hmm have you tried turning it on and off" and/or (b) I'll escalate the issue to engineering and/or (c) send a note to support.

(b) guarantees nothing is ever going to happen.

(c) supports sometimes respond within 10 - 14 days and it almost always consists of a general-generic response not addressing your issues or even worse a reference to the manual.

I'd rather deal with Behringer support because at least then I *know* I'm going to be ignored

Some times the NAM captures sound great, some times the Tonex ones sound better, and viseversa. But still the Fractal models sound phoenomenal.

I have to agree with you Nick. The NAM Captures I was using - at their specific static capture settings - did sound every bit as good a L6 / Fractal Models - but again I hit the wall of tweaking which is where high-end component modeling *still* leaves NAM and Tonex etc.... in its dust.

Hence why I'm sticking with the FM3 with the HX Stomp as a great sounding unit too as you never know what Fractal and L6 are going to release :)

Except price for a mobile unit. IMO the tones are as good as any but the price makes it accessible to many who want a portable cheap rig. These users don't really need the best effects and are more tolerant to UI concerns.
