The Strat Thread

Got a Christmas Present for you @FuzzyAce .

Next year try and be nicer, k? :hmm
:rofl

That's why I don't even know what a "Strat" or "Tele" is anymore.

:rofl

Is it just the body shape? :idk

I'd have to think that's a wildly different line across the board and I've mostly thought of this when the Jim Root sigs started churning out....they're techincally Strats, Jazzmasters and Teles due to the body shape, but the electronics and configuration really removes the things that makes those guitars inherently them. I can see from Root's perspective, "I'd like a Tele version and a Strat version and blah blah", and not being able to argue against calling them that in that context.

For me, I suppose it's when the modifications remove the sound of the guitar the guitar is known for, like slapping an 81/85 set in a Tele, but that also doesn't technically stop the guitar from being a Tele just because the guts are different, so that's definitely up to the individual. I know I've referred to my Solar as an Explorer before because I remember someone giving me a bunch of shit over it :rofl

My go-to "Strat" is a custom build by Kip Elder of Starr Guitars. He had a one piece swamp ash body and Fender soft-v bird's-eye maple neck for $600.

We added vintage Kluson tuners, a Bladerunner bridge with MagLok, and a Seymour Duncan noiseless loaded pickguard. It has a moderate relic Pewter nitro over 50's burst finish.

My real Strat ...

I think I definitely want a Player II Modified. They have exactly the specs I want for a Strat. I'm not so crazy about the colour options, though. I'll probably go for the Metallic Green with a maple fingerboard. Not my first choice in terms of body colour, but I definitely want a maple fretboard, which leaves me with a choice between green and a really ugly sunburst or yellow. But the more I look at pictures, the more I'm warming up to the colour. I'll keep an eye out for a good deal at the turn of the year. And then I'll likely install an EMG DG20 pickguard (the Gilmour set).

Damn, how quickly plans can change... I just received a 10% voucher from Henry's Music and seized the opportunity right away. I don't think okoumé instead of alder will make too much of a difference. Besides, I like satin red much better than the metallic green of the Fender, it has stainless steel frets and the maple neck and fretboard are roasted. This guitar costs me 31% less than the Fender and even gets an individual setup to my specifications (10-52 strings, set up for D Standard, re-filed nut notches for the thicker strings, etc.) from the factory at no extra charge.

You can deck the trem which noticeably improves the sustain and gives you tuning stability even with a broken string, or you can even block it with a couple wedges of hard wood.

I just have the one but I like it a lot. Player II modified with some LS105's and a custom pickguard (just to move the volume knob). Tuning is very stable.

Oh and plus the Relic (technicallly a Strat once upon a time) with an SH11 and a Floyd Original 84. (Dp180 on route)

Like early Beck Strat baseball bat size? If so then that screams my name.
Yes Ed. The Kotzen Tele has the same shape. Like a baseball bat cut in half.
I remember your Cactus Green Suhr from years ago. If I remember, it had a bat-neck.
You should check out either Fender Richie Kotzen. The Tele or Strat.

Yes it had a 1 incher. Didn’t like they changed the Beck Strat to smaller.
Well the RK is on my radar now.

I didn’t know what the Deluxe model was, a quick google search told me it was replaced by the Elite series that I have, which was replaced by the Ultra series. Beautiful Strat!
It wasn’t the guitar I expected to buy that day as I went to a view LSL XT4 but that was very underwhelming and anemic sounding pickups.

I picked up the deluxe an it was glorious- just bonded with it instantly and about £800 cheaper than the LSL.
It probably needs a regret at some point but these are the guitars are like the most where I can custom them.
