Hopefully this year I can get around to the Mars/Holmes partscaster; a CBS-era headstock, maple-neck Strat that’s beat to shit w/ a Floyd.
I've extensively played two MIM Strats and my American Elite and honestly the MIM Strats were ALSO excellent - If I were in your price range and I was buying new I'd be eyeing the Player II series https://www.thomannmusic.com/fender_player_ii_strat_hss_mn_acb.htmAh, this thread comes at just the right time. All you Strat lovers out there, can you recommend a good, affordable Strat unter 1000 EUR?
Yes, I've got my eye on the Player II Modified series. The specs would be right up my alley, but I don't like the colour options.I've extensively played two MIM Strats and my American Elite and honestly the MIM Strats were ALSO excellent - If I were in your price range and I was buying new I'd be eyeing the Player II series https://www.thomannmusic.com/fender_player_ii_strat_hss_mn_acb.htm
I want to buy an ash body to replace the one I've got to be honest. The best part of it is the neckI'm also considering trying a Henry's again, but I'm put off by the woods they use. When I buy a Strat, I want alder and maple, not okoume or paulownia.
I love that Strats are so modularI grew up playing all the Final Fantasy games, I stopped at XI. I had that PS2 with the network card add on lmaoHere’s my strat, a somewhat crazy MIJ model that celebrates the Japanese video game Final Fantasy XIV. Love the 12th fret inlay which is one of the games iconic illustrations of a ”meteor”. It holds a lot of different sentimental values for me. Also cool that you can play the same guitar in-game when playing the Bard job…
I think it cost almost double of what a more standard MIJ strat costs today. Two parts of the body is also bonded plastic that is see-through. They represent Light and Darkness, a recurring theme in the FF games.
I think the V-mod pickups run rather hot for being SC’s but they sound alright to me. They also added a ”limit break” push-push pot on the middle/bridge tone to put them in series. Never really found that sound very useful though.
The composer for the music for XIV is a fucking monster. All the older games is Nobuo Uematsu but Masayoshi Soken is no slouch. He pulled double duty writing the music both the best expansion of FFXIV and also FXVI at the same time, WHILE getting cancer treatment and being in the hospital.I grew up playing all the Final Fantasy games, I stopped at XI. I already own a MIJ Fender Modern Strat with two humbuckers and a mahogany body (fuckin‘ awesome guitar, BTW), but now I want a more classic SSS Strat as well.
Also; @DrewJD82 looking like he's having some fun in that last pic![]()
Man, those Players really are pretty damn good for their prices, especially considering they’re popping up used for $450-$500 regularly. If I weren’t so picky about dumb shit like wanting nitro over poly I’d have a few of them now and might end up with a Player Tele unless I can find something else that gets me going.
I can’t reason spending more than $1500 for an off-the-shelf Strat unless it’s got the EXACT specs I want, otherwise there’s partscasters that can be made for less.
