The Digitech Whammy, a complete history!

Connect them all in series!
I’m going to use this to power and switch between them for simplicity 👍

My only gripe with the Fractal Whammy is that it’s too clean, I’d love to see Cliff really nail the warble of the WH-1/II. I just use the Golden Whammy trick, it’s active in pretty much every preset for my live rig.

The pitch shifting is still pretty mediocre in Firmware 10.0, so I think I’m still getting an external. Probably the XS-100.

Ah, I thought you were just talking about the Whammy block itself. I still have to update my FM9, it’s been sitting in the road case since I quit my band and I can’t even remember what FW it’s on. Did the III’s pitch block updates trickle to it yet?

Yeah they just updated to 10. It’s alright. I’ll have to compare it to the Whammy and the XS-100 when we get one.

Jon,
You should have got one of these to fit under your board .
Much better than that white thing with the rounded back that won’t fit flush to anything .😳

Thomann do a few options from companies that give you stuff 👍🍺

A 24 karat solid gold Whammy would be some serious pedal board bling!
Have you seen the price of gold and silver today ?
Its gone through the roof and still rising Never a better time to sell 👍🍺
Selling price has never been this high in history. 😳

Can anyone elaborate about the buffer in the Whammy 4?

I've noticed Josh Homme using one first in chain, so anything further down sees the buffer. There's a (picky) Ge Range Master and a Superfuzz right after the Whammy, but no debuffer box or anything like that, at all.

Seems crazy, but I love his tone.

Any opinions about this choice of placement?

EDIT: fwiw, he's not using wireless, always connects to the Whammy via cable.

Wow, a lot of things I did not know. I bought a WH-1 in ‘93 because I was gigging and was looking for a game changer. I first heard about Whammy pedal when reading an interview with Vernon Reid and Doug Wimbish. I went to the music store and traded my (very modified) ‘71 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop Deluxe which went on consignment to cover the cost of the Whammy. I think the Whammy was $330 and my LP sold for $380! I do not miss the guitar and got a lot of mileage out of the Whammy.

Here are some pics I just took.
