Did you know the Golden Gate Bridge has to be painted once a year to keep salt water corrosion at bay?

Did you know it takes the paint crew almost an entire year to paint the bridge from end to end? They paint full time 11-11.5 months and then take a few weeks off for vacation before they start up all over again.

EDIT: embellishments have been made in the name of dramatization..... (y)

It isn't painted end to end. It gets inspected and touched up all year round.

"Painting continues today and is based on priorities which are determined by inspections that assist in determining where the corrosion of the steel is advancing. In 2012, there were two major paint projects along with touch-up projects - repainting the two main cables and the painting of the north approach viaduct structures."

Q:

Is the Golden Gate Bridge painted from end-to-end each year?

A:
No. Painting the Golden Gate Bridge is an ongoing task and the primary maintenance job. The paint protects the Bridge from the high salt content in the air which rusts and corrodes the steel components.

Cool subject though, I see this bridge every day.

Did you know ice cream has an expiration date?

Did you know there's a website dedicated to telling you the real expiration date of things,
and NOT what the manufacturers (who profit off you having to re-buy) recommend?
