The Annual NAMM predictions rumours thread 2024

I don’t see that happening.

Hey everybody, I’m expecting it to be great, like the old days. I’ll be shooting tons of footage, posting interviews with musicians and luthiers, and live-streaming concerts from the show on my YouTube channel. Here’s more info.

I don't now if anyone has mentioned / speculated this already ...... but I would bet money / slam dunk ... that IK are going to release a "full" Floorboard modeler ... using the Amplitude Amps and EFX with a Tonex Player block ..... its just such an obvious no brainer that I cant imagine it *not* happening.

They would release it with a good selection of amps / efx / tonex patch's ... and then "up-sell" individual amps and efx etc... for people to purchase from the IK store.

I'd actually be stunned if this *wasn't* announced at NAMM in a couple of weeks.

Maybe this year someone will throw in something totally leftfield, and produce a guitar attachment which picks/strums and frets notes, and is mind controlled with two stick on head sensors.
So at gigs all you have to do is stand on stage and shred away in your mind, while standing on stage in a catatonic state with your eyes rolled back and drooling out the corner of your mouth.

I somehow doubt that, but who knows..

Curious ... why ?

If I were IK .... looking around at the QC, KPA, Helix, Axe / FM9 ..... this is such an "easy" decision .... they already have all the amp and efx algorithms ...... they already have the Tonex Software algorithms .... and they know how to put the Tonex into hardware ... the floor pedal has no need to *do* the capturing as that is done via PC so it just needs to *play* Captures ......the only thing they need is a "metal box and processors" to do it ...... the hard part .... being the Amp / EFX / Capturing algorithms is already done ?????

Mind you ...... the Editor / UI is also extremely important ... and that - relatively speaking compared to all the other units - *is* something they seem to have *no idea* about !

I would love to see a complete overhaul of the Yamaha Pacifica line. If they ever release the Paul Hindmarsh model as a regular version, I would buy it immediately.

Not gonna happen. Take a look at the exhibitor map. This year it‘s far smaller than it used to be.
it’ll be the year where it’s mostly youtubers running around with cameras making the exact same content as each other and trying to hook up some freebies.partnerships. rather than what it was intended for.

Would be hilarious if the youtubers were the ones that had to make their own stalls and pitch 😂

it ceased being what it was originally intended to a long time ago.

The introduce new stuff to US dealers and int'l distributors and fill order books went bye-bye around 2005.
The last one I suffered through was 2013 and it already had become a civilian bonanza.
And that was like the 25th+ shoe I worked (counting Summer NAMM as well). And about the 30th I attended.

It would seem like a good move. Tonex is awesome and tbh the Amplitube stuff is awesome too.

I agree. Whilst I've moved on from Tonex to KPA LP's .... to my ears and hands ..... the Amplitube Amps and EFX sound essentially as good as anything else out there..... -but- ..... the s/w interface and UI is clunky, unintuitive and just basically really freakin'ordinary.

If they do it ... and I think its ineveitalbe sooner rather than later ..... I really hope they have got some new people to design an on-unit and s/w interface editor and interface UI.

Going to Namm was a huge ambition for me in my teens. Guitar stores in N Ireland sucked, most of the info I could get on guitars was via magazines and namm looked amazing to 15 year old me.

I'm still pretty sad at how dull I find namm now. I genuinely can't remember the last time I saw something exciting in a namm video.

... just as a side-thought ... asked this previously but never really got an answer.

Prefacing this with the fact that I know *nothing* about how Tonex and NAM do their thing ... and noting that NAM still has [apparently (?)] a very proavtive open-source-community .....

=> is there a specific reason why no-one in the NAM community has "hacked" a Tonex Pedal so it can load and run NAM Captures whilst leaving everything else the Tonex Pedal does in-tact (?)

or is the simple answer

=> "it would simply take a sh%t-ton of un-paid time and effort" (?)

I think it’s really something that IK are best suited to do, they have the resources, infrastructure, background and knowledge on how ALL their stuff runs. So even though it’s a pain for anyone to do; they’d have an advantage.

and the other side of it, is if they supported NAM models, they boost their portfolio of available tones MASSIVELY in one go. There’s still a ton of people put off NAM because of the open source nature of it.

The downside for IK would be that it’s more accurate than their own process and would sort of make their approach redundant in many ways.

I hope to see:

Line6 HX amp ONE. with only the amps. but hoping for a surprise to replace my Helix Floor.
Fractal FM6. would be the perfect form factor for me.
Quad Cortex mkII . with a proper power connector :)
