Would this bother you?

Last week I answered a FB posting for a guitarist to join a local community band. The posting had a photo of a band with 16 members. That's actually small for most community bands. As a comparison, I previously played saxophone and clarinet in two other local community bands of 50 and 80 members respectively. The post stated the band was new and growing. So I thought that was ok. A chance to be on the start of something big maybe. It is rare to have guitar in a community band, but I have played guitar once before in one of my prior groups for an arrangement of the James Bond Theme. The organizer I chatted with via text mentioned they were interested in playing Peaches en Regalia by Frank Zappa. That also peaked my interest.

I went to a rehearsal and found there were only 5 members (2 clarinets, trombone, tuba, snare drum) plus the organizer. The organizer was also the conductor. The FB photo posted was of some other band!!! I was somewhat annoyed of this little misrepresentation. I told them I wasn't going to return.

Keep looking! In my limited experience, in the beginning everyone is on their best behavior and it tends to go downhill after the newness wears off and egos start shining. If your gut is telling you to walk, run from that shit...

Humans can be so annoying. This is why at least 80% of guitarists turn into home players!
Yeah, but their big egos are still intact :wat

I didn't return for the last rehearsal and told them why. There wasn’t a good vibe from any of it anyway.
