TGF Official Amp Mesa Boogie Mark series. Join the fun and get one today!

I read an unsubstantiated but not hard to believe rumor that Mike B is hanging it up once he clears his current backlog. That will truly be the end of an era.

TBH I’m actually a bit surprised by how many of the key players stayed after Randall’s contentious exit.
Reports this week on the Mesa Boogie Faceplant Group that he is now officaly retired from a few folks that called to get service from him.

man, you guys dumping mids on marks are missing then luv. maybe mark iis are different, and i dont have an eq on mine, but in all my time with mesas ive never run mine south of 5!

The Mark Five has ruined other amps for me.

They're always too mid-heavy, and don't have the right amount of sex scoop, and they're not tight and chuggy enough for me anymore.

Booooo other amps!!
Such a good burden to have!

Lies! Mids are the enemy!

The Mark V was instant goodness for me - though I still love my Archon 50 classic too.

The only thing I miss on the Mark V is the Marshall style sizzle. It kinda does that on ch3 with the bright switch on, but not on ch2 without cranking it to poweramp distortion.

Makes me wonder if the JVM410 would be more appropriate for me, but I think the Mark V might be more versatile. Plus it looks better on top of my cabs since I don't have a 4x12.

Awkward The Office GIF

Looks like it was dropped - being a mesa (which are the favs of amp techs) I would hesitate on this one.

"this amp is in proper working order."
high quality GIF

Man, just a flesh wound.

I should show you pics of my Mark V that was in a band trailer accident... and still is fully functional.
:beer

Oh, and that listing is sold by Reverb/Chicago Music Exchange. Very reputable, in my view.

:rofl

What could cause those corners to separate like that other than being dropped hard? I wanna say MB uses dovetail joints in those corners. In fact, I'm almost positive.

It wouldn't scare me off for $1200 shipped free from a big box retailer like CME/Reverb.

My Bogner Goldfiner 45 headshell had a similar looking joint that did without being dropped.
Also seen it on furniture. :idk

Not saying that is the case.... (as the reverb tank is dented slightly, too.... just that a joint like that
can have more than one reason for a failure....especially when it appears to be along the entire joint
and there is no other indications of massive bluntforce trauma (like bent transformer mounts).

I was only curious about how it could've happened, although it probably would scare me off. My thinking would be, What else could've been damaged that I can't see, and could that possibility cause an early failure in some part, that would then cost more to repair, then just finding a better example. I'm really conservative in that regard.

Like if someone says "It's just a crack through the finish" on a guitar, I'm gonna pass, even if the price reflects it.

I recently watched a video where an amp tech guy traced a ground-loop hum inside one of the new IIC+ reissues to some sort of simple design mistake. It might have been a ground loop, or some sort of wire-routing issue, I can't remember. But he fixed it, and had several emails with Gibson, but as I recall, they didn't go very far to give the guy hope they would fix the issue.

So for me, when MB owned the company, I was very much at peace in buying new. But now, I'd probably opt for a lightly-used amp from prior to the Gibson buyout.

This, and it's a MESA, have you seen the guts of those things? Good luck root causing issues.

I saw the video a bit ago. It was a super silly fix but no chance I would attempt to do it myself.

I commend him for finding it! Although if I'm remembering correctly, I think it became a bit of an obsession for him at some point.

Dammit! This is pissing me off! Now I have to figure this out! :rofl (Not a quote, btw.)

If I needed a MB repaired, I'd want him to do it.
