Word, just checked and it looks like I currently have that shift activated. Need to get the III fired up again… likely going to roll it to its first gig in a couple weeks. That said, will still probably running it with the HX stomp Mesa geq model in the loop….. but that’s not to say I can’t still experiment with the mix knob lol

obvs you can season to taste- but you really do get into classic bassman exploder tones without it- and it sounds less like mesa high gain and just more like angry ass vintage amp tone a la steve jones.

i recently pulled the evm outa my iib and put a fane f70 in (still sits on an evm loaded thiele) and that really punts it outa 'that mesa thing' sound! that treble shift is a big part of 'mesa gain'.

Speaking of mids, I was looking for a low gain, edge of breakup sound for an intro solo yesterday. Pulled up the clean channel on my C+ and dimed the gain and set all the tone controls near max and and hit it with the bridge pickup in my Anderson, an H1 (moderately high output). Got me close, but a bit woofy and a bit too much high end. Turned on the graphic and lowered the 80 and 6600 and boosted the 750 and it was heavenly. I don’t call for that type of tone often, but nice to know that amp can get it.

I need another amp (especially mark) like I need a hole in my head but I will continue watching … this dudes had it listed for months and keeps dropping the price. I can see the used gear market being a little trickier on the western slope compared to Denver…

One of the more screaming deals I’ve gotten was a dirt cheap JVM half stack, dude was in Farmington, NM and we met half way in del Norte

What gain pedals are people using with their Mark amps?? With my Mark Five, I find it really hard to justify using anything, but I feel like I should at least have one or two on my board!

Mostly none, but I will always praise the synergy between crunch mode and the BB preamp midboost model

I love overdrives, and though I have 4 of them on my pedalboard right now, none of them really get used with my Mark amps. Sometimes I’ll roll the gain and treble down on the amp and engage a pedal, but it’s really not needed. Mark amps are generally already heavy enough.

Yeah I totally agree. But I'm looking at my simple board plans and it's all delay and reverbs - AGAIN!!!

I dunno man.... maybe I just need to accept that I only like spatial effects.

i use two with any regularity- an mxr super badass dynamic overdrive as kinda just a drier tighter mesa sound, or ill use a SHOD. i like both, but the lead channel works great too. i sometimes just run a micro amp in front too, but 99% of the time its just the lead channel and my volume knob.
