TGF Official Amp Mesa Boogie Mark series. Join the fun and get one today!

May as well ask..., What do the different stripes mean? Oh, and a black dot too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
An a III the stripes are just minor revisions of the amp circuit.

Chronology is something like:
Black dot/black stripe/no stripe
Red stripe
Purple stripe
Blue stripe
Green stripe

The blue and green tend to be the most aggressive but honestly the differences are somewhat overblown.

I’ve yet to see an experiment conducted that didn’t confirm Hetfield’s Theory of General Palm Mutability.
Mk IIC= Unobtanium
Mk III= Old enough and only specimens I trust visually are wayyyyyy up there in price compared to the "good old days" (I know that could be said about a ton of things but the IIIs used to be super cheap back in the day)
Mk IV= Do I get the A? Do I get the B? Ehhhhh?
Mk V= Oh 10w Tweed mode no thanks
JP2C+= Oh dual GEQs. Ehh
MkVII= Oh I've already had it and the best modes aren't footswitchable

I've had the Studio, the JP, and the VII. I know there are all rebuttals to these rebuttals but it's what allows me to Keep on TimbukingTM
with the Mark series :pickle :ROFLMAO: Alongside my overall impression about the scratchy gain structure and "look at the controls and your tone goes dumb in a microsecond" aspect.

That doesn't mean I won't have a IIC reissue or III incoming in the next few weeks. Obviously.:bag:facepalm

I am really good at buying crap at I don't need but I am also equally good at finding an "out" on something that doesn't fit my dumb criteria without even breaking a sweat. It has server me well over the years :grin

There’s a Mark III blue stripe combo in my local Craigslist right now for $1500.
There are some combos in Used GC section and Reverb. No shipping and close to $2k or they'll ship but no GEQ and/or they are rough.

Another self imposed wrinkle is I have 2 16 ohm cabs and the IIIs don't have a 16ohm tap. From what I see; I can't run the 16ohm cabs with the III so I'd have to make that move as well.

Mesa identifies 8 ohm tap into 16ohm cab as a safe mismatch so you could run one of them, just not both

8 ohms is the path of life though

Depending on the ohms of the speakers and the number of them in the cab, you may be able to re-wire them to change it.

Iow, 2 8 ohm speakers in series = 16 ohms; wired in parallel = 4 ohms. Or use only 1 for 8 ohms.

I could replace the jackplate on one with an in/out plate and use the 8ohm tap from the amp to daisy chain them both. I like 4ohm cabs usually for no real reason.

Yeah I run them both in parallel with the EVH at 8 ohm setting or with the LX at the 8ohm setting. It's the dedicated Boogie non-16ohm taps and the out it allows me to stick with :ROFLMAO:

I ran 8 ohm heads into a 16 ohm cab for years. You can do this.

10W Tweed mode is actually pretty fantastic. The 10W modes are one of the things I like that make the V so versatile and unique sounding when I choose 10W on any of the three channels or settings in each channel.

Found this blurb in the Mark V manual:

Don’t do this. I don’t need a Mark V as well lol - this sounds awesome actually and I never knew this about the full size V.
