TGF’s Original White Meat: Badlander thread

I have a BL 100 head and a BL 50 combo. The difference is typical as with most 100 vs 50 watt tube amps.

The 100 has a ton more punch and clean headroom when pushing volume to "stage" levels. IMO, the 50 is more than adequate for most live settings. If you're playing an outdoor festival on a 40+ foot stage, the 100 might serve you better.

You are not missing any mojo with the BL 50.

The "ton more punch" is what I'm afraid I'm missing.. because one can never have enough punch! Lol.

The 50 watter definitely wants to be at least at a certain volume, which can be hard to reach at the places I typically play, even with a 2x12.

So. Badlander and modern metal? Yay or nay?
I think it depends on your definition of modern metal. Does it djent? I sure hope not. Is it tight to the point of overprocessed/laptop bro metal? Not even.

Can it sound like the annihilation of the lamentations of your enemies and the instant evaporation of the tears of their womens? Absolutely.

I think that super gated djenty sound is more attributable to the aggressive gates used than the amps anyway?

When I say "modern metal" I'm definitely giving a false impression of what I'm talking about tbh, because I like a pretty wide variety of heavy tones. I'm into bands such as Erra, Parkway Drive, Architects, Vildhjarta, Wage War, Periphery, Invent Animate, Plini, Intervals, Bad Omens, Sleep Token, Tool, etc.

@Desertdweller is my go-to Mesa resource, but Im pretty sure you can get what ya want with a Badlander. He may say otherwise though.

IMHO "modern metal" is more of a style of playing, downtuned guitars EQ-ed a certain way, layered but not too much gain & leveraging a distinct type of effects (a lot of low-cut & high-end boost in pre).
I think most amps with a decent Lead / Drive channel can pull that off, some with more effort than others.
