TC Electronic Custom Deluxe 65 ... Giving it a second chance.

I bought a Custom Deluxe 65 pedal when they fist came out and while I like the sound and the features, I thought it was a bit too noisy and sold it fairly quickly.` I had an opportunity to pick one up for a decent price last week and I thought I'd give it a second chance. Running it through my recording setup, it is a bit noisy but with a bit more effort than I was willing to give it last time I think I managed to get it down to a livable level. This is my first test with it and to keep it as fair/objective as possible, there are no other plugins used on this (including no eq). It's just the guitar and the pedal. I'm running it on the clean channel with the bright switch engaged and a modest amount of reverb. The output is coming from the DI connection so it includes the speaker sim. Thoughts?

There’s something very fuzzy and wooly going on, like either the amp or something else in the recording chain is being pushed into overdrive. Is that what you were going for?

I feel like this line was overshadowed by several other options in the same general price range, but the ones I heard sounded pretty nice. This one has a surprisingly decent convolution spring reverb too!

And I think your demo sounds good! I agree with the fuzzy and wooly description, but I like that a lot for this style, actually, at least since the articulation is still pretty clear. Seems like it responds to dynamics okay?

Thanks to all for listening. I had a really difficult time getting the noise level down to a usable level and it felt like I was having to make what I considered to be a lot of compromises to deal with that issue. That's why I posted this, to see how others would respond to what I was able to get with it. I was actually sufficiently unhappy with it to return it this afternoon before reading your comments. So thanks for confirming my decision.
