My overall ‘I couldn’t give 2 shits I shit out 4 years ago’ take is this is an exercise in hype creating hype. Put out the idea this person is a huge star and getting all this acclaim, whether they are or not, and people start asking “Why? What’s so good about her? Let me see for myself” and all those people who never gave a fuck about Taylor Swift are suddenly lookin up her vids on YouTube or digging for articles, which the hype machine then uses as figures to display “success”

Media has conspired to create "stars" before. History don't lie. It's not an outlandish thought to ponder.

I went and saw them (Liliac) on Tour a few years ago with my Son. Little dive bar in Buttfuck Egypt!

Low ceilings. Hot as Hades in there. They ripped, though. Total Family affair. Mom was
running Merch and Dad was manning the PA. They killed it. Guitarist was using
a Kemper and it wasn't the greatest tone.... but it worked for them.

When Shawn Lane died I reached out to Guitar Player as to why they didn't put him on the cover, since he was such a guitarist's guitarist.
SRV, who'd passed over a dozen years earlier was the Lane issue's cover.

Kudos first off that I got a reply from them! They basically said they don't do covers for guitar players (irony!) unless the person is ridiculously popular in the moment - think Orianthi got one when she landed the Cooper gig - but instead for the casual music fan who'll recognize a face.

More kudos that GP dedicated an entire 6 full pages to Lane in tribute!
