What I will mainly be doing is playing along with iTunes/youtube learning songs for the band. Does that change anything at all, or still go with the HD280s?I really like the 7506es for casual listening. They're loud, light, foldable, and make music sound full and punchy. They're not all that great for mixing or dialing in modeler sounds, however. For that I'd recommend the Sennheiser HD280s.
The Sonys are fairly scooped, so you'll be boosting the mids while learning songs to make it sound as expected, but depending on your band's playback system, that may mean your mids will then be too loud. Ideally, when trying to dial in tones you want something with a flatter frequency response, like the HD280s. They don't sound bad at all; they're just not flattering to a fault. What I will mainly be doing is playing along with iTunes/youtube learning songs for the band. I find the 7506s to be a little harsh and thin. I have them but don’t love them. I prefer the sound of my Blue Mix-Fi’s but they aren’t super comfortable.
I need new headphones….
I agree . They’re fine for listening, and IMO utter shit for anything else. How they became popular for modelers and/or tracking/mixing is beyond me.I really like the 7506es for casual listening. on the other hand you can squeeze 4 x10" on almost the same baffle size as 2x12", and 4x10" will get a deeper frequency range (total speaker surface being relevant)its Funny how a lot of bass cabs are 10 " and guitar cabs are 12 think should be the opposite
This. Probably the main ingredient for "that Bassman tone".total speaker surface
I bough them when I saw your comments and those of Matt. Killer tones for sure and the built in preamp sounds fantastic, all fine for 6 months until the fake leather ear cushion disintegrated, same for the top one. At one point one of the articulations simply fell apart, took me 1 hour to gather 3 microscopic screws that bolt the articulation. Still use them 4 hours a day, but looking for something of better quality.I don't like them. I prefer Blue Mo-Fi/Mix-Fi but they're heavy and not comfortable for long-term use. The Sennheiser are okay. DT880s are also decent.
