Yeah I do the same. I have mine dial set at about 1 o'clock and it sounds great. I'll have to see what happens on full blast
I'm going to try turning the gain on the mod down to around 3 o'clock for my next playthrough, right after I complete filing my taxes.Yeah I do the same. I have mine dial set at about 1 o'clock and it sounds great. I'll have to see what happens on full blast![]()
I'm running it with the EL34s that it shipped with. I presently have no desire to swap them for 6L6s.Do you guys run Badlander with EL34 or 6L6? Interesting to know if there is any benefit to switching to 6L6 when running scary mod.
Here we goo!!! Finally got mine. Decided to remove front panel until I will settle with my best settings

Yeah, I have cnc and could do it eventualy. Maybe with some dark exotic woodThats actually really slick open. If you could get a cover plate around the edges it would kinda be awesome.
I ended up selling it a few weeks ago. But to be fair that's just me with most gearSo @gearJunkie and @Mongillo19 , some months later how are y’all feeling about the Mr scary mod? Just fired up my badlander for the first time in a bit and if I’m being honest still kinda figuring it out lol. It’s simplicity and ease of dialing almost is sending me into more tweaked paralysis than any mark ever couldSounds awesome but I’m just all over the place with how I wanna dial it. I have 6L6s in right now but actually as soon as it cools back down I’m switching back tk EL34s
Another big question… how does this mod impact dialing in clean tones???
I do really like this amp but the post FX loop master volumes are definitely a bit of a frustrating road block for me for maximizing balanced tones across channels for my weirdo needs
I am still using the Mr. Scary mod with my Badlander 100, and I really enjoy the end result, especially with respect to the clean channel. So @gearJunkie and @Mongillo19 , some months later how are y’all feeling about the Mr scary mod? Means you are doing it right! You have to push some parameters to the extreme on the badlanderI think I just need to keep spending more time with it, especially at band volumes
I know it’s always best to dial with ears rather than eyes, but my eyes are judging the fuck out of me because my favorite settings so far for higher gain tones kinda look like how a teenager who just discovered high gain might dial an amp in![]()
Exactly. This fact is what made the Mr. Scary mod appealing to me, since it allows for significant gain at not so extreme dial positions.Means you are doing it right! You have to push some parameters to the extreme on the badlander
That definitely was the biggest pro of it!Exactly. This fact is what made the Mr. Scary mod appealing to me, since it allows for significant gain at not so extreme dial positions.
Where does that wire connect to?
My Badlander 50W came stock with EL34 STR447. I've also tried Mesa 6L6GC STR440, 441, and 445 in it. The reduced high end of the EL34 makes it kinda boxy and muddy.
The 6L6 440 are too thin/flat and the most harsh.
The 6L6 441 is pretty close to the EL34, but with more high end and definition.
EL34 is a tiny bit louder than 6L6 at the same settings (setting optimal recording levels with 6L6 in, then switching to EL34 and now the mic/DI inputs are clipping).
6L6 are definitely ideal if you play chugs.
