I don’t need skeuomorphism but sliders are the absolute worst control interface. That is my primary gripe with HX Native/Edit.
+1. HX-Edit absolutely sucks.I don’t need skeuomorphism but sliders are the absolute worst control interface. That is my primary gripe with HX Native/Edit.
What a show. Can I be Pedro?
on the show, just to be clear, not the wife thing. What a show. Can I be Pedro?
Maybe then my wife will love me again.
Ahhh yes. The grandfather of the SSL knob cap. uh uh. uh uh.Scott Forstall
I will say that I think there is a tendency in design circles at the moment (other than to just ape whatever the fuck Apple are doing, coz they're "geniuses" apparently) is to disregard "prettiness" in favour of utilitarian choices, but pretty has its place. If we can fool the user into thinking they are using an instrument or an amplifier, rather than a bit of software, they'll be able to enter the same flow state they can enter when they're using a real amp, or when they're sat behind a drum kit. If they enter that state, they make more music. They find our stuff productive, and they become long-term users.
- "Ooooh... pretty."
Example:
I pull up a Deluxe Reverb amp model and it contains the preamp, power amp, reverb, speaker, cab, everything just like having the real amp sitting there. Same controls on the front panel, same inputs that can be selected, I can disconnect the internal speaker and plug into an external cab, etc. The ability to have an AB pedal I can throw in front to change between the channels,
Or I pull up a Mark IV and it contains all the same front and back panel controls, all channels, etc.
Feature parity, maybe? And I’m all for it. Very much a “why not both” proposition, though, where an authentic mode and a deep edit mode working hand in hand present best of both worlds.I made a mistake using the term skeuomorphic. What I meant for this to be about was amp models functionally matching their real world counterparts, not looking like them.
I don’t know if there’s a better term for that
Until Fractal put all channels and modes and switches within the same model, they have some way to go unfortunately. Absolute creativity killer having all your settings wiped when going between different modes on a Friedman or Mesa Mark Series.Well Fractal has the Authentic Tab which seems to be close
You used the right term, it’s just that we’ve had a hundred discussions on knobs vs sliders so that’s where everyone’s mind goes automatically.I made a mistake using the term skeuomorphic. Not aware of this My setting stay as is when changing amps, scene's and channelsUntil Fractal put all channels and modes and switches within the same model, they have some way to go unfortunately.
