I've got
Ibanez RG8527 for few month now and honestly, so far it’s the best 7-string I’ve owned. First J-Custom for me too, and yeah… I get the hype now

Plays insanely nice, superb fretwork, everything feels dialed right out of the case.
I’m not a fan of Tree of Life inlays, but in real life it’s honestly not as bad as I expected lol.
Running the stock 9–54 gauge, tuned to B standard, and it works great — very comfy and balanced and (I know I know) 54 on 7 is not THAT flubby. Not planning to change that. The neck profile is also perfect for me and feels like home.
Only real “modern” downside for me is the non-stainless frets. That said, when they eventually wear out, I’ll 100% refret with stainless… but I don’t think that’ll be anytime soon.
Compared to Prestiges, you also get some nice aluminum route covers, recessed knobs on the top, and an angled output jack.
Pickup-wise, it has PAF7s. They sound very good — kind of raw but still polite, soft and rounded with that typical PAF high-end sparkle. I like them, but for bridge I’m after something a bit more modern and higher output. Tried a Nazgul before, not my cup of tea. I’ll probably try a Pegasus next or maybe some Lundgrens, but it is long time since I had them and I don't remember how it was.
Overall, absolute keeper. Been playing it pretty much exclusively for the last couple months
