Yes more modern. You can get lower gain rock tones but the openness and dynamic spank isn't there.
For big Mesa tones, a boosted 2-ch dual/triple Rec still rules for the heavier stuff, and an 800 is unbeatable for Brit rock tone. The Badlander can do both decently - but it feels more like a jack of all trades.
That is a great deal! There is one at my store where I work that I play through regularly. It sounds great. A couple of years back I had the rack mount 50W head and loved it! Solid product. The heavy tones on it are good but it just needs a touch more. The cleans with a bit of gain pushed in sound great!
A JVM is way more compressed and has more gain (this comment is not specific about orange channel, I’m color blind and can’t remember wich channel is wil hitch)
