I find Mayer to be incredibly boring and overrated, and the video above definitely highlights that. But I guess that’s just not my type of music.
I’m a Mayer fan. I love that style of playing. I’ve been a SRV and Hendrix fan for a long time. I became a Mayer fan when his Room For Squares album came out. I was in Target and wandered into the music section. I saw that the CD included a bonus disc that had covers of Lenny and The Wind Cries Mary. I was like, “wait, what?”I just wonder where all those Mayer fans are! I know there’s a good amount at TGP, but even then, you don’t really see Mayer threads there. It’s like there’s this whole other world of gear nerds and we’re on the other side of the galaxy.

ETA: The (long) solo in this instantly became one of my favorite solos of all time. I love how it builds so nicely in terms of dynamics.
Coincidentally the newest QC update was quite Dumble heavy. A model, bunch of captures, and 3 two rock cabs. Maybe it was his?He was seen using a QC at Coachella, so wonder if there is a connection with NDSP.
If it was, I'd imagine they would have made a bigger deal about itCoincidentally the newest QC update was quite Dumble heavy. A model, bunch of captures, and 3 two rock cabs. Maybe it was his?
If I put on Mayer around my wife she'd be like "wth is this? Put on some Ozzy or AiC before I throw something at you!"
How can you not love this nod to Toto, dig this album :)
Sounds more like a nod to 80s Clapton.
Mayer's Try! album is pretty good. Probably the one I've heard the most.
I love this song but this is the only such song of his in his catalogue (afaik), so not a great represntation of his usual musical output. I think I just find him to be an SRV-LARPer (which is essentially an exercise in LARPing as someone who was a Hendrix-LARPer) who got way too big making radio-friendly stuff to actually find the time and effort to make the music he might have made if he didn't have the burden of being a mainstream pop artist. This is the song I think of when I think of Mayer. Fun lick to play
Obviously take this with a pinch of salt. Lol.
